Beverly Slaughter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Perry Funeral Home - Newark from Mar. 15 to Mar. 20, 2025.
Beverly Ann Slaughter was born on June 5, 1946, in Newark, NJ, to the late Charles B. Sr. and Thelma Gatling. Affectionately known as Freedee or Aunt Freedee by family and Miss Beverly by her husband Delbert, she peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home on March 11, 2025, while surrounded by her loving daughter Kelly and family in Bethlehem, PA, after a sustained illness.
Beverly was educated in the Newark, NJ public school system, attending Waverly Avenue, West Kinney Jr. High, and South Side High School. She dedicated 30 years to the security field, primarily serving at United Hospital and East Orange General.
Beverly married the love of her life, Delbert Slaughter. Their union was blessed with four children: Mindy, Delbert III (Beany), Rodney, and Kelly. In 2016, Beverly and Delbert relocated to Kernersville, North Carolina, where they enjoyed several peaceful and fulfilling years.
A devoted churchgoer, Beverly was actively involved with First Mt. Zion and Fellowship Churches in New Jersey, as well as Providence Church in North Carolina. Renowned for her kindness and generosity, she always provided help, prayers, or assistance whenever needed. Beverly was known for delivering leftover food from events to shelters for the homeless. Always poised and elegant, she took pride in her appearance, never seen without her nails perfectly done and adorned with her beloved gold jewelry. Beverly was cherished and beloved by all who knew her.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, Charles B. Sr. and Thelma Gatling; her husband, Delbert Slaughter Jr.; her son, Delbert Slaughter III (Beany); her twin sister, Betty Blutcher; her brother, Charles B. Gatling Jr.; her sister, Claudette Mattews and brother-in-law Joseph Matthews; loving brothers-in-law, Albert, Wilfred and Wilbert; and her in-laws, Albert Sr. and Willie B. Lewis.
Beverly leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving children, Mindy Nash (Stephen), Rodney Slaughter (Lorrie), and Kelly McFarland (Anthony); her sisters, Linda H. Austin and Anna Gatling; sisters-in-law, Louise Miller and Valerie Gwatley; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Slaughter; grandchildren, Cedric (Gareth), Shanté (Adekunle), Ashley, Del, Khadijah, Korey (Corinthian), Kyler, Konner, Kye, and Ahmad; great grandchildren, Myles, Adelani, Aleeah, Amara, and Titus; devoted cousins, Sharon Brown and Phyllis Williams; a special friend, Ina Goode of North Carolina; as well as many devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends, and beloved church families in New Jersey and North Carolina.
