Bernardo Figueroa Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bernardo (Bernie) Daniel Figueroa, 73, of Summerville, SC on Monday, February 17, 2025.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6pm to 8pm at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, 303 South Main Street, Summerville, SC 29483, on Wednesday, February 26th, 2025. The funeral service will begin at 11:00am on Thursday, February 27th, 2025, in the funeral home Chapel.
Son of Cruz N. Figueroa and Flor Alicia Onna, Bernardo Daniel (Bernie) was born on July 8th, 1951, in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. He was raised in Bronx, New York with his siblings and cousins. His aunts and uncles were a mainstay of his youth an always, "just around the corner." Family, from the start, was at the very center of his life. After high school, he joined the US Marine Corps where he served roughly three years and did two tours in Vietnam. Bernie was a true patriot and his time in the Marines was a point of great pride. In 1982 he met the love of his life, Milagros, shortly after, they married and spent the next 40 years together! Bernie embraced life with enthusiasm and took any opportunity to go on an adventure, loved watching a good movie, making his yard look amazing, and spending time with his beloved family. He was a talented craftsman and salesman who could handle any "honey do" list and sell you the Brooklyn Bridge. Most of all, Bernie loved to be in service to the Lord. His strong faith and reliance on Jesus Christ was clearly displayed in every aspect of his life as he faced both adversity and prosperity. He was a true man of faith.
Bernardo is survived by his loving wife, Milagros Figueroa; his children: Tanya L. Redgate, Marcos A. LaPorte, Sergio A. LaPorte, Melanie L. Russo, Bernardo D. Figueroa and Eliel R. Figueroa.; 19 beloved grandchildren; as well as his loving siblings: Carmen A. Young, Antonio Martinez and Milagros Martinez. The family would like to thank their friends and family for the out pour of love and support displayed throughout Bernie's illness and eventual passing. Your kindness will not soon be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, it was Bernie's wish to have donations made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
