Arlene Sabol
July 23, 1939 – March 13, 2025
Arlene Sabol (née Tobin), 85, of Verona, NJ, passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on March 13, 2025. Born on July 23, 1939, in New York City to Edward J. Tobin and Elizabeth (née Kiernan) Tobin, Arlene dedicated her life to caring for others, always offering warmth, kindness, and wisdom to those around her.
Throughout her distinguished career in nursing, Arlene worked in private-duty care, trauma units, and hospice settings, touching countless lives with her compassion and skill. She had a gift for making people feel seen, heard, and comforted, whether they were her patients, colleagues, friends, or family. Her kindness was boundless, and her presence left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Arlene was also a lifelong learner, earning her bachelor's degree later in life and continuously expanding her knowledge through reading and engagement with the world. She was passionate about politics and enjoyed discussing and advocating for the causes she believed in. Her intelligence, warmth, and strong convictions made her a cherished presence in the lives of those who knew her.
Arlene was a devoted mother, stepmother, grandmother, and sister. She is survived by her loving children, Joseph Sabol and his wife Marisol, and Elizabeth Wenzel and her husband Brian; her cherished stepsons, Terence, Sean, and Richie; her dear sisters, Bernice Doyle and Patie Tobin; and her beloved grandchildren, Logan, Lucas, Ryder, Mackenzie, BJ, and Hope. She also leaves behind her nieces and nephew: Stephanie, Heather, Jo, Celia, and Gabe. She was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Elizabeth Tobin, and her sister, Ann Tobin.
Visiting hours will be held at Paul Ippolito-Dancy Memorial, 9 Smull Ave., Caldwell, on Sunday, March 16th, from 2-6 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Notre Dame Church in North Caldwell, NJ, on Monday, March 17th, at 10 AM, immediately followed by interment at MaryRest Cemetery in Mahwah, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Arlene's memory may be made to Mercy Learning Center online at www.mercylearningcenter.org/give-donate or via check mailed to 637 Park Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06604, or to the Southern Poverty Law Center at www.splcenter.org.
Arlene's legacy is one of love, resilience, and an unshakable dedication to those she held dear. She taught her children, stepchildren, and grandchildren the value of kindness, the importance of lifelong learning, and the courage to stand by one's convictions. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know her.
