Anthony Walton Joseph was born in 1946 and known to most as "Tony". He was the eldest son of Walton & Sylvia Joseph.
Tony and his siblings attended Seventh-day Adventist Church and Bermuda Institute School from a very young age. After leaving Bermuda Institute, Tony attended West Indies College in the Caribbean and while there filled his days pursuing and enjoying various social endeavors. He was brought back home to Bermuda after Mom and Dad discovered that most of his time was spent having fun with his friends instead of attending classes.
Upon returning to Bermuda, Tony embarked on a career in the insurance industry. This was short lived as he very quickly determined that he didn't like taking orders from the bosses. He never had a problem finding another job and ultimately secured a position as a bartender at the prestigious Hamilton Princess Hotel where he worked his way up to being the first Black Maître D'.
A jokester at heart, his nieces and nephews recall many afternoons spent during their early teen years with Tony teaching them how to play cards, checkers or any other game his way, or in other words, the best way to cheat.
Known to have the "gift of gab", Tony met his match in Joyce whom he met at Yicces Place, now known as Casey's Place. The whole family fell in love with Joyce who became the Love of Tony's life. Tony and Joyce married in 1982 and Joyce remained his everything until his passing. In his later years, Tony enjoyed watching Premier League soccer on a Sunday afternoon and looked forward to the spirited conversations he had with his brother Gary when they spoke about the games that took place on the weekends.
Tony was predeceased by his brothers Lawrence (Joseph) Robinson and Terry Simmons, sisters Orreta Peniston, Beverley Zuill and Michelle Harvey; his brothers-in-law James "JB" Brackin and Clifford Brackin, Jr.; and niece Cheryl Brackin.
He leaves to mourn his loving wife Joyce, son Anthony Payne, brothers Delwyn Joseph, Gary Joseph and Paul Simmons, sisters Andrea Joseph, Laquita Simmons and RoseMarie Burgess, sisters-in-law Lynette Joseph, Hillary Joseph, Rachel Smalls-Simmons and Emma Lucas, brother in-law Harold Lucas, grandson Genesis Payne, nieces Kelley Barnhardt, Maiya Barnhardt and Kelley Burris, nephews Martin Lucas, Lamar Lucas, Martin Lucas, Jr., Cameron Barnhardt, Donald Brackin and Carl Brackin, cousin Lauren Lewis, and other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
Tony had many friends in Bermuda who send their condolences to the family.
