I knew Anita through my husband who also worked at St. Luke´s. Anita and her sister Mary were two of the best nurses we have encountered throughout our many trips to St. Luke´s. Anita stayed with my husband while he was in for a bout with pleurisy. She was able to comfort him throughout the stay with her calm, very loving care. Anita and Mary will always be a part of fond memories at SLH.

I am so sad to learn of Anita's passing. This woman has been in our lives for 54 years. She has been a wonderful neighbor and friend and family. She is with my oldest son now whom she was there since he was born and I would always go to her for her advice on a lot of things. She was there when I had all my children. Her daughters babysat for me.They are a wonderful family. My heart is so broken.I am going to miss her so.I didn't see her all the time but she knew in her heart I loved and appreciated her.I pray for peace and comfort for her family and all who loved her.I will see her again one day when the Lord is ready for me.Till then, Anita, know that you are so loved and missed here on earth. All my love,Marina XO <3

I didn't realize until this morning that Anita was only 13 year older than me. My small, but lasting memory was when I was about 9 years old and spent the nite with her and Norman in the big city of New Bedford. She took such good care of me and made a scrumptious breakfast for me. I was only accustomed to having either toast, oatmeal, or cream of wheat. So, when She placed a bowl of cold cereal with milk in front of me, then proceeded to make me scrambled eggs and toast-my stomach was in food heaven. Now that wasn't all, she introduced me to "coffee milk". Besides the royal breakfast I remember how beautiful she was (pregnant with Sandra). Aside from my own mother, she was the most beautiful Cape Verdean woman I knew. I will always remember her leaving for work at Saint Luke's wearing the traditional cap and cape of a registered nurse. I'm 75 years old and still remember that overnight with your mom.
