Coventry, RI - Alice A. (Bellwood) Bennett, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at the Miriam Hospital in Providence. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert T. Bennett.
Born in Cranston, the daughter of the late James A. Bellwood Sr. and the late Beatrice E. (Scott) Bellwood, she was a graduate of West Warwick High School, Class of 1950. Alice worked as a dental assistant for 60 years for the late Dr. A. James Kershaw and the late Dr. Walter Jusczyk until retiring in 1997. She also was employed by the New York Stock Exchange buying and selling stock.
Alice was a member of the former Church of St. Andrew & St. Philip, Coventry. For many years, she was a member of the Hope Historical Society, the Quonochontaug Central Beach Association and of the Quonochontaug Historical Society. While living in the Bennett Family Homestead of Hillside Avenue in Coventry, Alice designed their home nearby on Brown Street which she and her family moved into in 1963. She was very interested in genealogy and traveled all over the state to local libraries to complete her research of her family roots. She enjoyed painting and crafts, and creating beautiful wreaths made from driftwood she found on the beach at Quonochontaug.
She was the mother of Robert T. Bennett (wife Lisa), Allyson R. Corriveau (husband Michael), and the late Tammy L. Cotoia (husband John). Alice was "Grandma" to her eight grandchildren John, Alicia and Cheryl Cotoia, Adam Corriveau (wife Katelyn), Sharon Bedard (husband Nicholas), Tricia Corriveau, Kurtis and Jeff Bennett, and "Gamma" to her four great grandchildren Charlotte, Jeremy, Zoey and Vivian.
Her funeral service will be held at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick, on Monday, February 10, at 10:00 AM. Calling hours will be at the funeral home on Sunday, February 9 from 1:00 – 4:00 PM. Burial will be in Greenwood Burial Grounds, Fairview Avenue, Coventry. Donations in her memory made to the Hope Historical Society, P.O. Box 75, Hope, RI 02831-0075 would be greatly appreciated.
