Yvonne E. Mellott

Yvonne E. Mellott, 94, of Edwardsville, KS made her heavenly retreat on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at Providence Medical Center surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, Mon. May 13, at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs, KS with burial to follow in the Edwardsville Cemetery. Friends may call at the visitation from 3:00 to 5:00 pm, Sunday afternoon, May 12, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mellott was born on June 12, 1918 in Kansas City, KS and was a lifelong area resident having resided in Edwardsville for the past 80 years, graduating from high school there in 1936, and marrying her high school sweetheart James M. Mellott, and raising four sons.

During her long and loving lifetime she spent her time, tirelessly and unselfishly working as a farm wife, and then later as a bookkeeper and vice-president at the Edwardsville State Bank. Much of her life was spent counseling and consoling her three surviving sons and their wives, her 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and three Great Great Grandchildren.

She is survived by three sons and their spouses, Mitchell (Linda) Mellott of Bonner Springs, KS; James "Mac" (Dorothy) Mellott of Bonner Springs, KS; and Garrett (Jonetta) Mellott of Edwardsville, KS. She was preceded in death by her youngest son, Mark Sevier Mellott in 1960, and her husband of 34 years James McClellan Mellott in 1978.

Yvonne was born to Nettie and Mitchell Chandley and was the youngest and last survivor of four siblings; two brothers, Kenneth and M.L. Chandley and one sister Edna Welsh. She was proud of her ancestry and often alluded to her many greats grandfather John Sevier, the first governor of the State of Franklin, now Tennessee, just following the Revolutionary War.

Her final 25 years were spent maintaining her home and providing support for whomever came calling. She was proud of her membership in the Republican party, AARP and the Nature Conservancy and other charities too numerous to mention.

She was an excellent piano player, couldn't be fooled by any crossword puzzle and knew every episode of Gunsmoke by heart. Mom and Grandma we miss you, love you and will forever have you in our hearts. Arr. Alden-Harrington Funeral Home (913)422-4074 aldenharrington.com
