His civic activities included service on the Douglas County Planning commission and to the KU Alumni Association, where he was former president of the Endacott Society and a member of the President's Club and the Veteran's Alumni Chapter.

He and I were great friends from 6th grade until high school graduation.
I sang in the Methodist Church choir with his mother.
He was a very good football player and I watched him play all games in Lamar, MO.
What a Great Man.

Besides all his accomplishments, I remember most his humor. Oh how he made me laugh in grammar school. He would stop by my house on Sunday evenings to walk me to "League" across the street at the Methodist Church. The best laugh we had was when my little sister ran naked through the living room while Max was sitting on the living room couch. She said she thought if she ran really fast, that he would not be able to see her. I also enjoyed watching him play football and being in the Lamar High School Band where he played "1st Chair" Trombone. I also sang in the Methodist Church Choir with his mother. God Bless Max.

I will miss Max at all the KU Veterans Alumni events, but especially at the Executive Committee lunches. He was a consistently thoughtful and caring member. He volunteered to serve on the Executive Committee from its founding until his passing. Max was a great man with a lasting legacy to the University of Kansas and everyone who knew him.

Max was a close friend and high school classmate of mine. He was intelligent and curious about many things and tried to encourage others to do their best. I was fortunate to have served as best man in his wedding. To his family I send my utmost sympathy and know you have so many good memories of your father.
