Walter Sanno Obituary

Walter "Peck" J. Sanno, 87, of Mt. Holly Springs died Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at his home.

Born March 9, 1923, in Mt. Holly Springs, he was the son of the late Charles and Gertrude Jumper Sanno and the widower of Dorothy Turner Sanno, who died on Aug. 9, 2010.

Mr. Sanno retired as a truck driver for Lemoyne Frozen Foods. He was a member of Bethel Assembly of God, Carlisle. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II.

He was a member of American Legion Post 421, Newville, and VFW Post 7463, New Bloomfield. Peck enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved to tinker with small engines. He loved his family and enjoyed being with them. He enjoyed helping anyone in need.

Surviving are a son, Barry L. Sanno and his wife, Denise, of Mt. Holly Springs; a daughter, Geraldine Garner and her husband, Marlin, of Newville; a stepdaughter, Dorothy Lex and her husband, Raymond, of Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters, Vada Smith of Newville and Mildred Beidel of Carlisle; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Sanno and Landis Sanno; and three sisters, Nellie Bollinger, Gladys Barrick and Mabel Miller.

Funeral services will be held at noon Monday at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, with the Rev. Chuck Kish officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.

There will be a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 11 a.m. until the time of the services at the funeral home.
