Violet Walker Obituary

Funeral services for Violet Gloria Walker, 92, of Lawrence, will be 2pm Friday March 3rd at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence. Violet died February 23rd at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She was born December 18th, 1924, in Lawrence, daughter of Ira Edgar and Mata Ellen Gay Moon.

Violet was a lifelong Lawrence resident and horse enthusiast. There was rarely a horse show in Douglas County or the surrounding area where she was not present. She was a lifetime honorary member of the Douglas County Trail Riders and the Kansas State Horse Show Circuit, and a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and the Kansas Quarter Horse Association. She worked at Ray's Truck Stop and Margaret's Café for many years. In 1967, she married the love of her life Leonard A. Walker. She and Leonard spent many happy years together until his death in 1996.

Violet is preceded in death by her brothers Carleton, Chester, and Jack Moon and her first husband, Harry Fox.

Survivors include stepchildren Larry and Cindy Walker of Oskaloosa, Robert and Linda Fox of Oklahoma, good friends Bruce and Sharon LeClair of Lawrence, Reese and Angie Nordhus of Baldwin, grandchildren Dean and Bethany Lasher of McLouth, Rory and Sheera Kennedy of Edgerton, Christine Fox of Oklahoma, Cain Fox of Kansas City, and Trenda Fox of Lawrence, and her "little doggie" Buzz.

Friends may call Thursday, 9 am to 8 pm at the Rumsey-Yost Funeral where family and friends will gather from 7 to 8 pm.

Memorials may be made to Visiting Nurses, Hospice in care of the funeral home, PO Box 1260, Lawrence KS 66044. Online condolences may be sent at rumsey-yost.com.
