Verola Acheson Obituary

Verola Acheson, 98, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, May 31, 2021, in Lawrence, Kansas. Visitation will be Friday, June 4, 2021, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory, 306 West Main Street, Independence, Kansas. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at the chapel with burial to follow in Harmony Cemetery in Cherryvale, Kansas. Verola was born January 26, 1923, on a farm near Freeman, South Dakota to Dan and Regina (Schrag) Boese. Verola graduated from Freeman Christian Academy in 1940. She attended Bible School in Gordon, Nebraska and Anderson College in Anderson, Indiana.

Verola loved and served the Lord as a faithful church member, volunteering in many capacities including Sunday School teacher, choir member, board member, greeter, organist, V.B.S worker, and many others.

Verola retired from full-time employment at City Publishing Company in January of 1993 after 29 plus years of service. She continued working part-time for several more years.

Always putting everyone else first, Verola was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, neighbor and friend. Many have been recipients of her generosity, enjoying a loaf of homemade bread, gingersnap cookies or a homegrown flower bouquet. She willingly shared her testimony of God's goodness and saving grace through word and deed.

Verola was preceded in death by her parents, brother Walter, and sister Bertha. Those left to cherish her memory include her four children: Joyce (Jim) Atkinson, Sharon (Delroy) Bender, David (Rose) Acheson, and Julie ( Bryon) Edmondson; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
