Timothy Murphy Obituary

Timothy Michael Murphy, 57, Shawnee, KS, passed away peacefully January 6, 2012, in the comfort of his home and presence of his loving wife Phyllis. Visitation was held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, at Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Dr. Shawnee, KS 66203. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 11, at Kaw Prairie Community Church, 9421 Meadow View, Lenexa, KS (K7 & Prairie Star Pky) 66227. Lunch was served following the service. Tim was born October 6, 1954 in Ft. Benning, GA, son of Col (Ret) James K. and Ellen S. Murphy. He graduated from Immaculata High School in Leavenworth, KS in 1972 and Pittsburg State University in 1978. He completed a Masters degree at PSU in 1982. He spent nearly his entire working career as a Parks and Recreation professional, the last 15 years with Merriam Parks and Recreation. Tim was a dedicated husband and father to his son Ian (11). He was active in city league sports, scouting and family life. In addition to his wife and son, Tim is survived by his father, James K. Murphy, Lawrence, his uncle, Rev. Harold B. Murphy, Chicago, brothers: Jim Murphy, Topeka, Ken Murphy, Alexandria, VA, and Sean Murphy, Leavenworth; sisters: Sheila Murphy, Lawrence, and Katie Holmes, Lansing; and 24 nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made in Tims memory to the 3 & 2 Baseball Club of Johnson Countys Scholarship Fund or Kaw Prairie Community Church.
