Terry Tracy Obituary

On Thursday, April 7, 2022, the world lost one of its most compassionate, most hospitable, most brilliant, and quietly hilarious human beings. Terry Allen Tracy passed away in Lawrence, KS, age 87, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Terry was born on February 11, 1935, in Neodesha, KS, the son of Herbert and Louise (Bradfield) Tracy. He graduated from Belton High School in Belton, MO and then went on to graduate from the glorious University of Kansas with a degree in zoology.

Terry married his high school sweetheart, the lovely Ellen Meador, on August 17, 1957, in Belton, MO. They moved to Columbia, MO, where Terry graduated with a medical degree, specializing in obstetrics and gynecology, from the University of Missouri. He practiced as an OB/GYN and surgeon for almost 30 years. Terry then went on to earn a master's degree in health care administration from Wichita State University and worked for the state of Kansas for nearly 15 years.

He was a member of the KU Alumni Association, Lawrence Rotary Club, Trinity Episcopal Church, and a well-known, well-loved patron at J. Wilson's and Six Mile Chophouse and Tavern in Lawrence.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ellen, and brother, Jack Tracy.

Survivors include his children, Alison R. Tracy, Barbara J. (Robert) Brown, Kent A. (Maggie Solis) Tracy; grandchildren, Matthew (Cassie) Mar, Taylor Brown, Austin Tracy, Anna Tracy; one great-grandson, Liam Mar; and his devoted companion and adventure partner, Carol Turner (of the home).

A private inurnment will take place at Pioneer Cemetery, Lawrence, KS. A Celebration of Life will be held at Six Mile Chophouse and Tavern, 4931 W. 6th Street, Lawrence, KS, on April 30, from 2:00 to 4:00.

Memorial contributions may be made in Terry's name to the American Cancer Society and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, Kansas 66044.
