Susan Elaine Gardner

Susan Elaine Gardner, 57, McLouth, passed away Friday, September 13, 2013 in her home after an arduous battle against cancer. She was born May 26, 1956 at Coffeyville, KS., the daughter of Edward "Ed" and Edna "Sue" Byrum Hite. She was a 1974 graduate of Bishop Miege High School in Kansas City, KS., and earned her B.S. in Education from Pittsburg State University in 1980. She served as a Middle School Math and Science Teacher for U.S.D. #233 in Olathe for 25 years. She met Garon Gale Gardner at Pittsburg State University and they were married on October 22, 1977 at St. Agnes Parish in Roeland Park. Susan and Garon both coached for many years during their long teaching careers, and both deeply enjoyed watching their three sons compete in sports throughout their school years. Sports played an important role in the lives of the Gardner family. Susan enjoyed participating in volleyball, slow pitch softball, and especially tennis, where she was a formidable opponent for her husband. She enjoyed watching the Chiefs play on Television and attended games from time to time. They were rabid fans of the Kansas Jayhawk basketball teams and attended numerous games at Allen field house and throughout the country during "March Madness". She was a member of Sacred Heart Church , Tonganoxie, the National Education Association and the Republican Tea Party.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 36 years, Garon Gardner, of the home, three sons, Nathan (Misty) Gardner, Vincenzia, Italy, Aaron Gardner, Leavenworth, Isaac Gardner, Lawrence, four grandchildren, Kaitlin, Caleb, Braydon and Addison, one brother, Edward Hite, III, Honolulu, HI, and a sister, Cathy Hite, Flannagan, Ill. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Ed and Sue Hite of Roeland Park, KS.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM, Thursday, at Sacred Heart Church, Tonganoxie. Burial will be at the McLouth Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday at the Church in Tonganoxie with Parish Rosary recited at 6:00 PM ,Wednesday.
