a pioneer’s promise*
(in memory of Sumner Redstone)
by Ruth Esther Gilmore
go and discover unchartered mountains and ocean depths
you need not leave alone for these glories
for the unknown is known to the lion of heaven
also the concealed land behind death’s stories
do not leave without a lamp of hope
and a sextant of celestial consolation
do not turn life’s doorknob
without reaching for the offered support
go with a whoop of your heart’s surrounding affections
wander with a satchel of buoyant assistance
take the offered everlasting hand
the way shines for you in the distance
go for the adventurous great plains and the blue-green grass
you need not fear the unexplored watery foam
brace yourself and take the titan trusting step
leave your doubts behind for yours is the world to roam
*from the book “braving life in these uncertain times” (Geest-Verlag) by Ruth Esther Gilmore
