Stephen Putthoff Obituary

Mass of Christian Burial for Stephen Raymond Putthoff, 73, Lawrence, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at St. Lawrence Catholic Center in Lawrence. A Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Tonganoxie, KS. Stephen died May 15, 2022 at his home in Lawrence.

Stephen was born on January 27, 1949 in Lawrence, KS, the son of Donald and Ruth (Ingraham) Putthoff.

He worked for the United States Postal Service as a Mail Carrier for over 30 years.

Stephen loved to spoil his grandchildren. To them he was known as Papa Steve. He had season tickets to the KU Football games and every year remained optimistic that they would do well. He was an avid KU Football and KC Royals sports fan. He was also a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Center.

He married Marlene Newell on March 20, 1993 in Tonganoxie, KS. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his children, Heidi (Jimmy) Barnes, Tonganoxie; Jeff (Peggy) Putthoff, Tonganoxie; Ted Putthoff, Lawrence; Tony (Mindy) Putthoff, Tonganoxie; grandchildren, Travis, Alisha (Cameron), Derick, Lorelei, Lani, Jared, Jacob, Kylee, Gavin; great-granddaughter, Leanne; his siblings, Greg (Laurie) Putthoff,, Tonganoxie; Tom (Andrea) Putthoff, Tonganoxie, John (Pam) Putthoff, Tonganoxie; Kathy (Larry) Franklin, Lawrence; Susie (Mauro) Salustio, Olathe, KS; Brother-in-laws, Michael (Janie) Newell, Southlake, TX; Mitch (Linda) Newell, Wichita Falls, TX; Marlon Newell Los Angeles, CA; nieces and nephews, Chris, Nick, Zach, Michael, Lindsey, Josh, Tyson, Emily, Preston, Adam, Joey, Vinnie, Gabby, McKenna, McGwire, Michelle, Kevin and TJ.

A visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

Memorial contributions may be made in Stephen's name to Catholic Relief Services and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
