Stephen Harrell Obituary

I simply cannot say enough about the sacrifice that so many men willingly made to save others on September 11, 2001. To say I admire them is a great understatement. I choose to never forget this day or these heroes. Lt. Harrell was one of the many that made one final act of indescribable courage and selflessness. Thank you for your sacrifice, Lt. Harrel. My prayers go out to any of his family and friend who continue to mourn this loss. God bless you all.

I didn't Know Stephen until today, when we visited Ten House, I remember watching on TV from the UK where I live, God these men were so brave!, beyond any call of duty, it's left a big stamp in my thoughts!.. Speechless....

Yesterday, I wore a badge with Stephen's name and picture on it and climbed stairs at Lambeau Field in honor of the selfless courage and great bravery that he showed during the 911 attack. I will always feel a great debt to Stephen and others like him. He is a true American hero!

Praying for Lt Harrell's friends, family and ladder 10. Last year I carried you in my heart 110 stories. You were with me at work today. I think of you and the 342 ny finest everyday. God bless you for your service.

In 1972, Lt. Steve Harrell was a role model to me. He was a senior member of the O.L.P.H. Ridgemen Drum and Bugle corps in Bayridge Bklyn. An outstanding horn player and soloist.
I was a 13 year old kid from Bed Sty, he was about 19. He had serious swagg and was as cool as the other side of the pillow.
I grew up without my dad and no brothers. Steve Harrell was one of the guys that gave me a clue as to how a young man from NYC was supposed to carry himself.
To all his family and friends, i just want to let you know, if you don't already, he was a role model as a young man and he was that and more on his last day on earth.
May God bless and keep Lt. Steve Harrell and all those who gave all on 9/11.

It was an Honor to carry you name in 2 9/11 Stair Climbs. Reading tonight I realized my last climb I carried your brothers name as well.

To Lt Harrell friends and family. I just wanted to let you guys know that I was thinking of all of you today. I wore his name and picture with pride as me and my ff husband climbed 110 flights today in Atlanta, Georgia. It made what Stephen did hit closer to home for me. I've been to the wtc growing up in Allentown, pa. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of all of those brave men. God bless you all

I wore a commemorative bracelet today with your name and that of your brother, Harvey inscribed on it in your honor for Veteran's Day today. We must be related somehow. Thank you for your life of devoted service.

On July 14th, I walked in your honor at the 9-11 Memorial Stair Climb at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Unfortunately, I overheated and could not finish the climb. I intend to participate in the 9-11 Memorial Stair Climb in Wausau, Wisconsin in September in an effort to finish in your honor. God bless!

I just completed the Hero Rush obstacle course run. I had the honor to be selected to have you as by running partner, wearing your name on my chest and being a part of the 343 wave of runners. I salute you for your courage and sense of duty. Please know that I will not forget you. And to your family, let it be known that there are thousands upon thousands of firefighters, paid and volunteer, who think and speak of these unfortunate events everyday, who recognize what heroism is, and that Stephen is one of them. I am not a religious person, but some sort of fate made sure that the Lt and I share a special connection and bond now.

I am a FF with the Nashville Fire Department , Yesterday (9-11-2011) I had the honor and privilege of climbing 110 flights of stairs at the 2nd annual 9/11 memorial stair climb in Nashville . I did this to honor you and yesterday you completed the 110 floors with me. I climbed because you couldn't. god bless and never forget!

Today, in honor of Lieutenant Stephen G. Harrell, I climbed 110 flights of stairs. I want the family to know that I will never forget. I am a first grade teacher and I have taught my students about the horrible events and the amazing sacrifices that were made on that day - so THEY will never forget, either. I was honored to pay tribute to this hero today. I appreciate the sacrifice that he and his family made. God bless you.

I think of you often and miss you dearly though I know you are there at times watching over my shoulder as my guardian angel, just like you did in 1978 when we worked together for the Staten Island Continuum and the summer youth program. I can't belive we sat at the end of the pier at Cromwell Center, looking at the Lady in the Harbor and the Towers never expecting that those Towers were to be so fateful. I pray for you, your wife and daughter often. Stay close and know that you are missed dearly and loved forever...

I am proud to be climbing in your memory at the Dallas 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. I will be one of the first ones in to make the climb up the tower as you were on the day you helped provide the largest rescue operation in the history of this country. You are a hero and a patriot. My name is Stephen Harrell, age 13, out of Claiborne County, Tennessee. I was only a little kid when the United Stated came under attack, but I remember it like it was yesterday. We lost alot of good people and good heroes on that fateful day and I wish for everyone to remember the good times that they had with their loved ones that were lost on that day and pray for the families. 9/11/01 Never Forget! I remember meeting you for the first time when i went to Staten Island to meet nana and poppie.I was taken back by how handsom you were.It has been 17 years and I can still remember you singing and playing the paino.You sang your heart out then and I am sure you still do now.I will miss you always.I know you and uncle buddy welcomed nana with a nice fresh cup of coffee, and will take care of her.She was the proudest mom in the world. Dear Stephen Harrell, I would like to send my hearfelt condolences to your family. I will always remmber the christmass parties and the picnics that ladder 122 had. They were the best. I remmber that day when I went to the picnic at the jewish center on manor road and you said that my son will be saved if he fell in the pool water. I was affraid but when you said that you eased my mind.I wish you were still alive because I would know that if you had to save me that I would be in good hands. I knew stephen as a lil girl he was my neighbor and his brother Dave still lives next door. I can remember hearing the sax and saying uhh hes playing that sax again.. oohh to hear that sax one more time. Stephen was so handsome I remember i had such a crush on him and him being the sweetest guy that he is totally went with it. I really thought this man liked me LOL He even wrote in my Jr high school year book to my lil pumkin stay as sweet as you are. Stephen Mom Miriam was my Mom.. She did everything for me the day she passed away i think 2 years after 9/11 i cried my eyes out. Miriam died of a broken Heart she lost both her sons harvey and stephen in 9/11 . What tragedy for everyone but this one was a double tragedy. Stephen.buddy I know that you welcomed your mom at those gates of Heaven I wish I was there to be in that moment as a mother reunited with her boys. I see Dave everyday fixing his cars and I wonder how he carries on without his 2 brothers But The Harrels are strong willed boys and Dave lives each day knowing your right by his side. I wil never ever forget you steph.. take care of your MOM and RIP until we meet up there Hopefully when I get there I will have my Neighbors back so that I know where to go to borrow sugar. Many days we spent talking about becoming firemen, I remember every tuesday we had to stop on our route and grab the "Chief" civil service news paper to see when the test was coming up. You were and always will be a great friend and like an older brother to me Steve. I looked up to you as a teen and I look up to you as a man. You were one of the best people i've ever known. Your mentored me on many issues in my life and you taught me alot about compassion. I'm honored to have known you!

Long time, old friend. I have been remiss in visiting you here. I toast you and your brother. You and all of the FDNY and NYPD are the real heroes every day. I think of you often and I was happy for you when you finally moved off this island. Too bad it was for a short time, but you are in a better place now. Peace and Love, Steve.

I have never had the pleasure of meeting you or your husband Stephen, but I am given great comfort in hearing what a wonderful man and firefighter he was. Stephen was the covering liuetenant at L10 on 9/11 and my husband Jeff was with him.
