Sheila Roesler Obituary

Sheila Mae Brown Roesler, 69, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at her daughter's home in Garden City, KS. A funeral service will take place 10 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2017, at the Episcopal Church of the Covenant in Junction City. A visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday, February 9, 2017, at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Junction City. Burial will follow the service at Milford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the Church of the Covenant, Women's Connection, 110 South Garfield, Junction City, KS 66441 or Friends of Animals, PO Box 580, Junction City, KS 66441.

Sheila was born March 3, 1947 in Junction City, KS to Cecil and Minnie (Gustin) Brown. She graduated from Milford high School in 1965 and went on to attend Kansas State University.

On July 13, 1968 Sheila married Steven Duane Roesler in Milford, KS. They were married for 24 years and had two children; Chad and Paige. While being a loving and devoted mother she was also very active in her community. For many years Sheila was an active member of Zion United Church of Christ, EHU and PEO. Sheila was ever present in the schools; serving on PTA, as a room mother and the world's biggest Blue Jay fan. Which lead her to being on the Board of Education for USD 475 for eight years. Her commitment to the youth of Junction City grew when in 2001 she started an organization called Women's Connection. The mission was to teach the value of an education to high school girls and the organization is still active today, giving assistance to families with school-age children. During Sheila's years of working outside the home she enjoyed working in the offices of Dr. Bunker and Dr. Bollman.

In 2005 she left the work force and started the career she was created for; being a grandma! Grandma "Bobi" wore out a path between Garden City and Lawrence to spend time with and care for her grandkids. They truly were the JOY of her life. Her face ALWAYS lit up when her grandchildren entered the room. No matter how bad the day or how bad she felt... if they entered the room she made them feel EXTRA-ordinary!

Sheila has been a member of the Church of the Covenant for many years and loved being on the grounds committee and caring for the courtyard. Most Saturday mornings, if the weather allowed, you would find her in her overalls pulling weeds and watering flowers at her church...truly a labor of love.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Minnie Brown and nephew, Kade Brown.

Sheila is survived by her son, Chad (Lindsay) Roesler and granddaughter, Livia, age 7, of Lawrence, daughter, Paige (Mike) Kraus and grandsons, Carson, age 11, and Reece, age 8, of Garden City, brothers; Ray Brown of Longford and Bert (Sheila) Brown of Angel Fire, nephews; Jason Brown of Ulysses, Justin Brown of Larned, and Bronson Brown of Wakefield, niece, Heather Collette of Kansas City, and aunt, Marjorie Gustin of Junction City and numerous grand-nieces and nephews.

Sheila was a beautiful woman of faith and lived her life blessing others. Whether it was purchasing winter coats for a family in line at Wal-Mart or simply buying a soldier lunch anonymously and having the waitress tell him "Thank you for your service" she quietly showed people the love of Christ.

Chad & Paige, my sympathy goes out to you for your loss. Your mom was a kind and gentle woman. I also remember that she was quite the seamstress, and I was always impressed with the clothes she made. I lived up the street at 117 Sunrise Hill Drive in JC and used to babysit for Chad when I was in high school. In the summer, when your mom would fill in for the vacationing tellers at the bank, I would stay at your house during the day and care for Chad. You and your children are in my thoughts and prayers.

I met Sheila when granddaughter Lindsay was to be married to Chad. I think I had sort of a buzz cut at the time and she said, in her soft bit of a drawl, "Now that hairdo has attitude!" We will be saying that it was a blessing that Sheila was freed to go to a better place; but she also personified "blessing" to her family and particularly her 3 grandchildren who adored her and whose bountiful love she returned. She was one of the nicest people I've met and I think we are all better for having known her. My sympathy to all those who grieve.
Love, Margit
