Shane Dye Obituary

Shane Barry Dye, age 54, passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2021. He was born April 29th, 1967 in Frostburg, Maryland. He attended Lawrence High School. Shane was a Navy Veteran and served his country in Desert Storm on the USS Simpson. As a child, Shane loved to take apart lawn mowers, bicycles, and typewriters and put them back together. This trait served him well as a gas turbine specialist in the Navy and as an automotive mechanic. He later worked for more than 28 years as a water treatment operator for Lawrence and Emporia.

Shane had a good heart and loved his family; he made many happy memories at family holidays and Sunday dinners. He relished time spent canoeing with family and friends as well as some family beach trips. Shane appreciated old western movies and was a diehard Chiefs fan. He also loved watching boxing & UFC fights with his friends and family. Shane had strong political views and thoroughly enjoyed debating these views.

He loved being outside and would aid hurt or stray animals at any opportunity. Shane taught his children to do so as well. He enjoyed listening and dancing to classic and alternative rock as loud as the stereo allowed. He loved being a father and his most favorite title was being a grandpa, or "Fun-pa", to Ayden, Aspen, Hank, and Otto.

Shane would give the shirt off his back, figuratively and literally, and his last dollar to anyone in need without a second thought. He never hesitated to help a friend or a stranger and he made everyone around him laugh without even trying.

Shane was preceded in death by his father Larry Dean Harrell and brother Kenneth Allen Dye. He married Joanna Trammel Dye; they later divorced. He married Jadene Berg Dye; they later divorced. Shane is survived by two sons, Boston Dye of Lawrence, KS and Carter Dye of Lawrence, KS; daughter, Evan Dye of Lawrence, KS; four grandchildren Ayden, Aspen, Hank, and Otto of Lawrence, KS; his mother Darlene Yates of Lawrence, KS; two sisters, Yvette Bowlin-Prager of Lawrence, KS and Kelly Dye of Alexandria, Virginia; two brothers, Gordon Dye, Lawrence, KS and Robert Harrell, San Antonio, TX; many nieces and nephews and his good friends Karla Peck and Dawn Hammerschmidt Hill.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 26th, 7pm at the Eagles Club, 530 Wisconsin, Lawrence, KS.
