Sarah Black Obituary

Sarah Underwood Black, age 92, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida passed away on January 6, 2022 in Thomasville, Georgia. Born on February 21, 1929 in Lawrence, Kansas she was the daughter of Prescott Underwood and Doris Patterson Underwood. She was married to the late James William Black for over 50 years. Sarah was a graduate of the University of Kansas. She was a devoted lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church. She also served as a Stephen Minister and was active in the P.E.O. Sisterhood. In her spare time Sarah was an avid golfer and tennis player. She is survived by her children, Karen (Tom Bevilacqua) Merriam, Susan Kogan and James Thomas (Mandi) Black; grandchildren Robert Kogan, Matthew Kogan, Katherine Merriam (Alex) Silverman, George (Shelby) Merriam, Sara Marie Black and Jeffrey Black; great grandchildren Elliott and Margot Silverman; and sister Jane Baker. Mrs. Black was preceded in death by her husband, James William Black and sons in law, Steve Kogan and George C. "Skip" Merriam.
