Sara Cloutman Obituary

A funeral service for Sara "Liz" Cloutman, 78, Lawrence, KS, will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at First Presbyterian Church in Lawrence. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence. Liz passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Baldwin Healthcare & Rehab in Baldwin City, KS.

Liz was born January 10, 1947, in Dallas, TX, the daughter of Orval A. and Virginia I. (Powell) Barnes.

After graduating from Bryan Adams High School in Dallas, she attended KU where she earned a degree in English Education in 1969.

Liz and Larry moved to Bloomington, IN, where Liz earned a master's degree in library science from Indiana University in 1972.

They then moved to Los Alamos, NM where their son David W. Cloutman was born. She worked part-time as a teacher's aide.

In 1986, they moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, where she worked two years as an elementary school librarian. In 2000, she completed a BS in journalism from San Jose State University. She then worked as a newspaper reporter until they retired to Lawrence in 2003.

Liz is survived by her husband, Larry, and their son, David.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Patricia Macom.

Memorial Contributions may be made in Liz's name to the Lawrence Humane Society and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
