Ruth Carey Obituary

Ruth Arline Carey, 78, of Ottawa, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012. She was born Dec. 14, 1933, in Homewood, the daughter of Raymond Edward and Agatha Eva Schulte Turner. She graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1951. Following high school, she moved to Kansas City to work two years for Royal Typewriter. From the 1970s to 2005, she and her husband owned and operated Carey Plumbing Inc. Ruth was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Ottawa, where she helped with Bible study classes. She was active with many groups and charitable organizations, including the Altar Society of Sacred Heart, Ottawa Junior Wranglers horse riding group, Rambling Ranchers 4-H Club, Meals on Wheels, the Franklin County Cancer Foundation, the Franklin County War Memorial, the Prairie Spirit Rails to Trails, Ransom Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Republican Party. She married Raymond Ralph Carey on Jan. 8, 1955, in Homewood. He preceded her in death on Oct. 2, 2010. Survivors include two daughters, Sheri Crane and husband, Rodney, and Susan Vague and husband, David, all of Ottawa; three sons, Victor Carey of Michigan Valley, Mark Carey and wife, Jana, of Ottawa, and Joseph Carey of Rapid City, S.D.; three sisters, Mary McClure of Ottawa, Loyola Hutchison of Scranton, and Charlotte Simmons of California; a brother, Claude Turner of Yates Center; nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church in Ottawa. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 8:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, where family will meet them from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Ottawa. The family suggests memorials to Calvary Baptist Youth or Sacred Heart Catholic School, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa 66067.
