Ronald Young Obituary

Ronald Leroy "Ron" Young, 90, of Centropolis, KS died Monday, May 22, 2023 in his home.

He was born April 4, 1933 in Clifton, Kansas, the son of Everette and Elva (Walls) Young. Ron was a graduate of Clifton High School with the class of 1951. The Young family homesteaded in Kansas when Ron's Great-Grandfather, Alexander settled in Cloud County in the 1870s. With his family, Ron moved to Eudora, KS in the 1950s.

On April 16, 1954 Ron Married Phyllis Baecker in Ottawa, KS. They later divorced. Of this marriage Ron had four children.

On February 17, 1973, Ronald was united in marriage to Loretta Page at the First Southern Baptist Church in Eudora, Kansas. They recently celebrated 50 years of marriage.

After graduating high school, Ron served his country in the United States Army. Following his service, he worked as a millwright at Farmland Industries in Lawrence, KS for 36 years, retiring in 1989. Ron lived in Eudora and Baldwin City area throughout his career. After retirement Ron and Loretta lived in Green Forrest, AR from 1993 to 2017, moving to Centropolis in 2017. Together, they attended Centropolis Christian Church.

Ron loved fixing up old houses, during his "retirement", he flipped over 20 homes. He also owned several rental houses. Growing up on a farm, Ron was a farmer at heart, he loved raising his cattle. He never complained about farm work, hay season brought long hours but he was happy staying busy. Ron also loved his 1966 Ford Bronco, but most of all, he cherished and marveled at his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Everette and Elva Young; two brothers, Lawrence Young, Charles Young; wife Shirley; step-father, Cecil Smock; a son-in-law, Russ Cloon and a grandson, Aden Huggins.

Ron is survived by his wife, Loretta Young of Centropolis, KS; three daughters, Diana Johnson and her husband, Jim, of Pomona, KS; Denise Cloon of Baldwin City, KS, Sandra McDaniel and her husband, Lonnie, of Edmond, OK; a son, Scott Young and his wife, Laura of Ottawa, KS; two brothers, Darrel Young of Baldwin City, KS, and Donald Young of Lawrence, KS; eight grandchildren, Jimmie Jr., Marcie, Russell, Kyle, Jake, Clay, Zane, and Wade; and eight great-grandchildren, Beau, Gwen, Taylar, Andy, Kaia, Lexi, Iva, and River.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, Baldwin City, KS. To celebrate Ronald's life, a visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 29, 2023 at Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, 712 Ninth St, Baldwin City, KS 66006. Loretta, I want to send my condolence to you and your family. I lost Eldon in January of 2022. We were married almost 70 years. My daughters are having a birthday party at the Union Pacific rail road for my 90th birthday. I'd live to see you.
