Ronald Kuhnhausen Obituary

Ron Kuhnhausen passed away on Jan 3, 2025 at Providence Hospital Hood River, OR after long battle with dementia. He had been living with his sister Edie (Bill) Crouse in White Salmon, WA until he went into memory care in Hood River.

Ron grew up in Vancouver, WA and attended Leiser Elementary, Walnut Grove Elementary, Mac Hi, Hudson's Bay high school, then on to Clark College in Vancouver and graduating from Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA.

Ron was a world traveler and hiker who went on amazing journeys around the world after he graduated from Western in 1971. He visited countries like Nepal, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkey, Greece, Australia, New Zealand and finally Montreal, Quebec where his wife's family lived. They stayed in Canada until after their son Nicholas was born and eventually returned to Vancouver, WA where they lived next door to Ron's parents, Vic and Ruth Kuhnhausen. Nicholas tragically died by drowning on a camping trip in 1981.

Ron taught school in the Vancouver school district and coached wrestling and girl's soft ball at Fort Vancouver high school.

Ron love hiking and camping. He climbed and hiked local Mt St Helens, Mt Adams, Mt Rainier and Mt Hood in Oregon. He hiked many trails through Puget Sound and around Mt Rainier. He loved living in Sequim where he moved in 2010 to be close to his favorite hiking trails. He only left there when he could no longer live alone. Ron is preceded in death by his parents Vic and Ruth Kuhnhausen, his son Nicholas, and his oldest sister Judy K Jefferies.

Ron is survived by his sister Vickie (Bill) Gibbons of Portland, OR and sister Edie (Bill) Crouse of White Salmon, WA. Due to Ron's request there will be no services.
