Robert Nash Obituary

Robert Alan Nash, MD, 85, of Olathe, Kansas, unexpectedly passed away April 13, 2016. He was born Feb. 6, 1931, in Lawrence, KS, the son of Bert and Ruth (Bushong) Nash. Survivors include his wife Barbara (Clarke) Nash; children, Robert A. Nash II, Grant W. Nash, Juliana Nash Moultray (Michael), Aaron Walker (Nancy), and Justin Walker (Barbie); sister, Barbara Nash Mills (Steve); 3 grandchildren and beloved OliverBird and JordyHawk. Bob was brilliant from a young age and skipped 2 grades in Junior High. He attended the University of Kansas where he received his BS and MD degrees. He was a proud member of Phi Gamma Delta. After 3 years of military service in the US Air Force, Bob practiced family medicine in Olathe for 7 years after which he completed his psychiatric residency at KU Medical Center. He then served as a psychiatrist working in Leawood for over 20 years before becoming the Medical Director at Wyoming State Hospital in Evanston WY, a position he held for 18 years. After retiring, he received the Pioneer in Mental Health award from the Bert Nash Center. Bob loved all things KU and one of his fondest memories was caddying at an early age for his dad and Phog Allen. He was an avid reader and volunteered at the Olathe Public Library. Bob loved fly fishing with his wife. A celebration of Bob's life will be from 1-4 PM, Saturday, April 23, at Shogun, 12028 W. 95th St., Lenexa, KS 66215. Memories and Condolences
for Robert Nash

Not sure what to say?

April 24, 2016

Condolences to Barbara and the family. We knew Bab from way back - favorably and fondly - and I borrowed his ski clothes and gear the first time we went CO skiing in the early 1960's. I was glad to see Bob at Phi Gam events in recent years. Blessings! Woody and Louise Davis

Barbara,
My deepest sympathy to you on the loss of Bob. He lead a great life that many of us would have liked to emulate. My memories go back many, many years so that I remember older people speaking admiringly of 'little Bobby' Nash. I'm glad we saw one another at some UHS reunions.

Barbara My deepest condolences to you and to your family. You have lost your soulmate.
I know your many wonderful memories of Bob
will be a comfort.

I'm so sorry to hear about this. It was a pleasure to work with Dr. Nash at the Wyoming State Hospital. I always loved seeing him walking around with his bird on his shoulder. He was a great guy.

Barbara and family, it saddened me tremendously to hear that Bob was gone. I was immediately reminded of a time many years ago when Bob and the "boys" pranked Jeff at our wedding. They proceeded to switch him out of the jeans I had loaned him when his suit pants 'disappeared' into those same suit pants they had taken and hidden. And, they did it right out in the front yard for all to see! I can still hear his laughter and see the smile on his face.

May God comfort you in your loss with his love and peace. May you be blessed by sweet and precious memories.

I am so stunned and saddened by this news! We really appreciated all of Dr. Nash's help as a youth mentor at Prairie Trail Middle School the past several years.

Barb, I am so sorry to hear of Bob's passing. We had some great times togther. From our trips to Chicago to our "croquet matches" in the front yard on Harrison Street. I pray you will find the strength and peace to get through this, probably the saddest moment in your life. I know he will always been in my heart and memories, much like Herb Shuey, Gene Terry and our many other friends who have crossed to the other side. It was pleasure to know him and call him my friend.

Sincerely, I offer my condolences to you and your family. I know there is a great river full of fish or a slope with pure white snow waiting for him across the Rainbow Bridge.

Miss you and will be thinking of you during this difficult time. If you need anything or just want to touch base, please contact me [email protected]

With love, Andy Hoffman
