Robert Lominska Obituary

I remember many of my teachers from USD497 growing up in Lawrence, but Mr. Lominska stands out as one of my favorites. He was warm and funny, and even as a 4-year old kid, I could tell he really cared about his kindergarten kids at Hillcrest. I remember him singing for us and encouraging us to sing with him. His kindergarten was probably my first school music experience, and it showed me how much fun music in the classroom could be. He was such a kind person, even though I´m sure we were challenging and rambunctious little kids. I remember taking care of baby chicks, and how special it was to see them hatch and watch them grow. Mr. Lominska was a great teacher and a wonderful human, and I can't imagine having a better role model in those early years. My thoughts, prayers & deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends.

What a wonderful teacher he was. I will carry such fond "core" memories for the rest of my life thanks to him. He will, without a doubt, live on through the people he has affected.

Dear Bob,
I know that my life is full of good things because you showed me the possibilities back in 1987 in kindergarten class at Hillcrest, where we hatched chicken eggs, fed the baby chicks mealy worms, played in bins of milo, tapped maple trees across the street for syrup for our corn cakes, all the wonderful songs you played on your guitar... I do all these things myself now and share these skills with my children. I will never forget you, and even though we never got to catch back up in person, I remain grateful and forever changed by your beautiful presence. I owe a lot of my love for learning to you. Thank you for everything Rest easy and know that you are still making a difference through your legacy.

Bob and Joy were/are quiet leaders and workers and agents of change serving some of the most important foundations of society. Local food and agriculture. Organic and sustainable agriculture. Classroom teaching that is vibrant and active. Generations of Lawrencians were touched on Saturday mornings at farmers market, or by Rolling Prairie, or were his kindergarten students or their parents at Hillcrest. Always, they made lifelong friends. Bob told me once, of having a beer with one of his kindergarten students twenty-years later. A life really well-lived.d
