Robert Lemon Obituary

A visitation for Robert (Bob) Lee Lemon, 89 Lawrence, will be held from 6:00 pm- 8:00pm on Tuesday June 6th at Rumsey Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence, with a memorial service at 6:30 pm. Inurnment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence on Wednesday, June 7th at 11:00 am. Bob passed away on Thursday May 25th, 2023, at LMH surrounded by family.

Bob was born on November 11th 1933, in Topeka, to Charles W. and Frances Perry Lemon. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1952. He married Joyce Cottle in 1952, had 2 sons, & later divorced. He married Judy Armstrong in 1957, had 3 daughters, & later divorced. He met Jeanie Wheelock, his life partner in 1991.

Bob's career and passion was law enforcement. He joined the Topeka Police Department in 1962 and in 1967 joined the Lawrence Police Department. He attended the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA in 1972 and also was one of the first members of the Department of Public Safety in Lawrence. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police in Lawrence; he was their eldest member. He retired in 1987 as sergeant of the force.

Bob was known to all for his kind smile and giving heart. He loved spending time with his family, including getting down on the floor and playing with his great grandkids and beating Jeanie in a friendly game of poker. He enjoyed drinking coffee with his daughters and many of his lifelong friends. Bob had a strong love for all animals. He would feed the deer and birds daily & never left home without dog treats in his pockets in case he made a new fury friend. He also enjoyed watching old westerns, completing puzzles, making yard art, and of course John Wayne. He was also a member of the NRA.

He was survived by his love of 32 years Jeanie Wheelock of the home, 3 daughters; Tina Stice, Pam Henderson, and Bobbie Shreve (Terrence) all of Lawrence, 2 sons Bobby Kline, Topeka, Chuck Kline, Bonner Springs, 18 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Charles Lemon, Duluth MN, Larry Lemon (Pat), Topeka, KS and many nephews and nieces. He is also survived by Jeanie's 3 daughters; Jamie Wheelock, Kerri Wilkins (John), Ashley Hornberger, grandchildren & great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Thomas Lemon, & son in law Danny Stice.

He will be dearly missed by all that knew him.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the Lawrence Humane Society or donor's choice in Bob's memory and sent in care of Ramsey Yost Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1260 Lawrence, Kansas 66044.
