Bob was one of the remarkable people that I have ever met. I was fortunate to have him as an HoD and a colleague. What I admired the most about Bob was his fairness and his gentle nature. He was also a man who kept his promises despite the busy schedule/ work load he had as an HoD at the time. We (the teachers at the English Foundation Program at Qatar University) miss Bob so much and are grateful that he was a part of us for so long. He is missed. May he rest in peace.

I am shocked and deeply saddened by the news of Bob's untimely death. I remember him very fondly from my years in Lawrence. I admired him deeply for his kindness and generosity, for his courage to get out and explore the world. I have a box of letters that Bob sent during his years in Goroka, Papua New Guinea. I have always cherished them and will now cherish them all the more. May Bob's memory be for a blessing.
