Richard Perkins Obituary

Funeral services for Richard Louis Perkins 93, Olathe, KS will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Richard passed away on Monday, May 16, 2022, at his residence.

Richard was born on January 8, 1929, in Lawrence, KS, the son of Carl and Stella (Ransdell) Perkins.

Richard was a devoted husband and father. Richard retired as an Associates Executive Director of Facilities from the University of Kansas after 40 years in the Facilities Department. Richard was very proud of his time at the University and the good friends he made during that time. Richard was a exceptional example to all of his children and grandchildren of honesty, morality and dedication. He was always present and ready to help any of his family when they needed it. His family admired the devotion he always had for his wife including the hours spent with her daily as she went through her dementia at the end of her life. Our father loved his wife and family, and they could all feel that love. Our father will leave a giant footprint.

He married Helen Nightingale on December 14, 1948, in Ottawa, KS and was married almost 71 years. She preceded him in death on October 5, 2019.

Survivors include his daughters, Stella A. Clevenger, Sanger, TX, Sharon L. Samuels, Olathe, KS, five grandchildren, Tom (Justin Silk) McCall, Bill (Angie) Breshears, Stephanie (Kevin) Joles, Kelly (Nick) Frederickson, Nolan (Katie) Samuels, eight great-grandchildren, Travis Frederickson, Ryan Breshears, Danielle Frederickson, Spencer Frederickson, Kinzley Joles, Kason Joles, Easton Samuels, Ty Samuels, and one great great-grandchild, Elizabeth Breshears.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Helen, daughter, Sandra Breshears, and grandson, Richie Breshears.

A visitation is set for 10:00 am, May 21, 2022, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

Memorial contributions may be made in Richard's name to The Alzheimer's Association & other related disorders or School of the Deaf in Olathe, KS or The American Cancer Society and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
