Richard French Obituary

Richard Allen French

Richard Allen French, 88, of Baldwin City, Kansas, passed away on August 24, 2014, at his home. Richard was born in Ft. Scott, KS on May 16, 1926 to George and Ruth (Lantis) French.

Richard served his country during World War II in the United States Army with the 103rd Field Artillery Regiment. His tour of duty was in the Pacific Islands where he was awarded three Bronze medals. Richard was employed as a roofer, iron worker, and sheet metal worker. He retired at 62 as a member of Sheet Metal Workers' Local Union #2.

Richard has been in the Baldwin City area since 1967 having previously lived in Ft. Scott and Nevada. He was a member of the American Legion, Lloyd Beaton Post #228 in Baldwin City. Richard was a jack-of-all-trades who loved his family, his country, good meals, and football. He loved watching the boys play sports and would travel to watch them play.

Richard was united in marriage to Marjorie Caldwell on February 19, 1949 in Bentonville, Arkansas. They shared 65 years together. She survives of the home.

He is also survived by three daughters; Deborah Morgan and husband, Larry, of Baldwin City, Connie Romstedt and husband, Randy, of Baldwin City, and Lisa LaFountain and husband, Tom, of Baldwin City; four grandsons, Tim Sheldon, Brian Sheldon and wife, Chelsea, Richard Romstedt and fiance, Niki, and Brody Romstedt; four granddaughters, Brijette Romstedt and fiance, Roger, Mattie LaFountain, Olivia LaFountain, and Nellie LaFountain; two great-grandchildren, Stokes Sheldon and Cash Romstedt.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael Allen French; and a brother, Donald French.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 9 – 10 a.m., Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Baldwin City. Graveside funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Oakwood Cemetery, Baldwin City. Family suggests memorials be made to Douglas County Humane Society or Alzheimer's Association in care of Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, PO Box 64, Baldwin City, KS 66006.
