Richard Allen Obituary

Richard Earl Allen

Richard Earl Allen, age 83, passed away on July 1, 2014 at his home. Richard was born August 28, 1930 in Kansas City, MO., to Homer and Georgia (Miller) Allen. He graduated from Bonner Springs High School in 1949. After high school, Richard proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Korean War. After receiving an honorable discharge in 1953 he returned to Bonner Springs, Kansas. Richard worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and then went to Kenosha Auto Transport, where he retired after 25 plus years. Richard married Virginia Laux on July 4, 1953 and was happily married for nearly 61 years. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and by two brothers, Vance and Gene. He is survived by his wife Virginia of the home, one son Mark Allen and partner Patrice of Dana Point, CA., two daughters; Margo Adair and husband Bob of Kansas City, KS., and Mikki Lawrence and husband John of Fairway, KS. Richard had six grandchildren Rachel Dixon and husband Guy, Justin Adair, Carey Lawrence, Diego Lawrence, Jack Lawrence and Maria Lawrence. as well as three great-grandchildren; Gabriel and Annalie Dixon and Jackson Adair. Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday July 8th at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home with entombment to follow at the Gate of Heaven Mausoleum in Kansas City, Kansas. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service also at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church or the Wounded Warrior Project both in care of the funeral home.
