Rex Lane Obituary
On May 25, 1954, Marion L. Lane and Laura "Jean" (Peterson) Lane Christensen welcomed their first child, Rex L. Lane. The family moved to Topeka, KS, where he spent in formative years. Rex was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, their children, Laura E. Lane & Dr. Christopher Liverman of San Francisco, CA and Catherine Allison Lane and Steven Familo of Front Royal, VA, his sister, Kerye J. and Allan Jackson of Topeka, KS and nephews, Jason McEwan & Joshua Fulton.
To honor his legacy and celebrate the numerous lives he touched, a memorial service will be at 12:00 PM, Saturday, June 3, 2023, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home 800 Kansas Ave, Atchison, KS. Family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the funeral home. Following the service, a celebration will be held at Elizabeth's 121 N 5th St, Atchison, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family directs memorials to the Coach Rex L. Lane Memorial Scholarship at Benedictine College (please make checks payable to Benedictine College with Rex Lane in the memo). Checks may be sent to Benedictine College, 1020 N. 2nd Street, Atchison, KS 66002. Full obituary may be viewed and words of comfort for the family may be left at www.beckerdyer.com

Rex was a great person and a wonderful coach. I remember him training for the Boston Marathon in the 90's while I was a runner at McLouth. He was a dedicated, hard working man who loved his wife and children so much. He will missed by so many.

Rex was five years older than me, so I experienced him as a guy to look up to in 1977 when we were teammates at the Lake Atwood Ten-Mile Road Race. A few years later I was a bartender in Lawrence and sometimes we had to call the cops on unruly patrons. When Rex showed up we knew we were safe and in good hands. Decades later, when I returned to Lawrence to give a talk about a book I was promoting, sitting in the audience was good old Rex. He and Elizabeth chatted with me for a while and I felt grateful for their friendly support. I have only good memories of Rex. He made my life better.
