Raymond Wilbur Obituary

Rest in Peace, Mr. Wilbur. You were loved by my children when you taught them at LHS in the 80's. They felt respected and liked. Thank you.

Mr. Wilbur was one of a kind beautiful inside and out. We were neighbors and if I didn't understand things he allowed me to come over for lessons. We grew up hanging out with Mike and Patrick. What a beautiful family, Mrs. Wilbur was always kind. I am sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Wilbur´s passing . He was such a kind man. He was one of my teachers in High School. My thoughts and prayers are with you now and the coming months as you go through the process of grieving.

My senior class voted Dr Wilbur teacher of the year (1982). He was a big reason why I majored in math at KU and have had the career and life I´ve had. Many heartfelt condolences.

Very sorry to hear about Ray. Ray was wonderful to work with, he was a truly kind person with a great sense of humor. He made everyone around him want to be better. His teaching was inspiring, I was so lucky to work with him.

I´m a grateful recipient of his goodness as a teacher. Much love and sympathy to his family.

Mr. Ray Wilbur was my Calculus instructor at LHS in 1972. He stands out as one of the best teachers and genuinely nice guys. I pray he rests in peace.

Ray was such a giving, caring and unselfish man that touched so many lives. I am very sorry for your loss.

Have many fond memories of Doc Ray both as Mike's dad and as a teacher. He was a good, talented man that made the world around him a better place. (He was also a good house painter...probably want to mention that too.)

Sorry to read of Dr. Wilbur's passing. Condolences to Marian. The majority of our children were privileged to have Dr. Wilbur as a teacher. They have expressed thanks for the foundation he laid for their present careers and are grateful for the excellent teacher he was. Thank you.

Ray was a wonderful person I enjoyed painting with a few years ago. The Wilbur family are in our prayers.

I was a student in calculus when Mr. Wilbur became Dr. Wilbur. We had many terrific teachers at LHS, but he was simply outstanding. I have often thought about him and his inspirational classroom presence, and I am saddened to read of his passing.

Always remember you two at the Book Sales. You are in our thoughts.

Mr. Wilbur was a game-changer for me in High School. I was one of those "I-hate-math!" kids, but Mr. Wilbur was such a good teacher, I fell in love with calculus. Always a kind and reasonable person, he was also a friend of my mother's as well.

Not so well known is that Ray was an excellent housepainter, His ability to manage a crew and keep the work and conversation reflected the kind of synergistic man he was. One of a kind.

After learning of Mr. Wilbur's passing, two of our children wrote us: Our son: "One of my favorite teachers. Calculus, 0 hour. He smoked a pipe and always smelled of smoke."
Our daughter: "He was a great teacher and a good man. I had him for Calculus. My class was one that voted him Teacher of the Year. Remarkable, really, for a math teacher."

I am sorry for your loss. Prayers for the entire Wilbur family. Mr Wilbur was definitely a favorite with the kids. Well done good and faithful servant

Dr. Wilbur absolutely changed the trajectory of my life by revealing to me how much I loved numbers, and that there was nothing to fear in math. I went on to get a master's in business with a concentration in finance, and have had a happy career in finance. He was a gem! Sending condolences and good memories to those who will miss him the most. And giving thanks for him, his gifts, and the good luck to have been in his class in 10th grade.

Our kids went to Lawrence High years ago. I sent Ray Wilbur's obituary to our daughter and she wrote back:
"He was a great teacher and a good man. I had him for calculus. My class was one that voted him Teacher of the Year. Remarkable, really, for a math teacher."

Ray will be remembered as a significant educator who influenced the lives of innumerable students and fellow educators.

Mike and families - So sorry to hear about DocRay. Always enjoyed him as a teacher and as your dad.

Mr Wilbur was my math teacher one year at LHS and also my sophomore basketball coach. He was very good at both of those jobs. Also, he was a fine, fine man.

He will be missed.
