James Hall Obituary

HALL, James Douglas
November 30, 1953 - October 13, 2025
With extreme sadness, we say good-bye to James (Jim) Douglas Hall, leaving behind his wife of 49 years, Betty; children Kim (Joe), Kelly, Bonnie (Dave), Michael; grandchildren Corie (Brian), Jared, Devin, Carly, Sarah (Chikara), Rayanna, Ben (Melissa), Ethan; two great grandchildren Ronin and Maya. He is also survived by brothers Albert and John; sisters Patricia, Maureen, Dorothy and Frances.
Jim was born on November 30, 1953 in Mission, B.C. to Charles and May Hall, number 12 in a family of 13. He is predeceased by his parents, Charles and May; brothers George, David, Robert, William; sisters Barbara and Shirley.
When Jim married Betty and 4 children on February 28, 1976, he took on the responsibility and commitment of family, which became the purpose of his life. He had been a boy scout so as an adult, he became a leader accompanying Michael on many outings, as well as being a devoted hockey dad. He welcomed each grandchild with enthusiasm and joy, relished in all their activities and accomplishments as he had with his children - hockey, baseball, soccer, golf, band, attending games and concerts proudly.
Jim had a career in accounting, law (graduated from UVIC Law School in 1993) and business but his family always came first. Christmas and all holidays were for family gatherings. Jim loved to cook and host all of us.
He was passionate about life, conversed with everyone he met because he was interested in them and what they had to say. His sense of humour was quick and his laugh infectious. He loved history, politics, science fiction, sports and especially music. He and Betty travelled extensively within Canada and internationally, however, being an avid camper and lover of the outdoors, he instilled the love of camping to the entire family. Consequently, we had many camping trips, mostly on the island although our younger, ambitious offspring are venturing further afield.

In keeping with his wishes, there has been a private family celebration of his life which was exactly as he wished. His death has left a huge hole in our hearts.

Sorry to read about Jim. My condolences to you Betty and the family.
I met Jim and Betty when I joined Blazing Paddles dragon boat team in 2006 at the encouragement of Bente. Jim was a welcoming manager and I felt valued as a rookie. The team was well run and many a laugh was had on the waters of the Gorge. Paddles Up Jim.
