Rachael Sheridan Obituary

Rachael Marie Sheridan

Rachael Sheridan, 39, of Lawrence, Kansas, died February 24, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Mo, surrounded by her loving family. Cause of death was complications from H1N1 flu. A memorial service and celebration of Rachael's life will be held March 15, 4 p.m. at the Cider Gallery, 810 Pennsylvania in east Lawrence.

Rachael was born in Lawrence on Thanksgiving Day, 1974. She worked as a cognitive therapist at Minds Matter, LLC, in Lawrence. She was a loving mother, daughter, granddaughter and aunt, a loyal friend, and the best big sister in the world. Her friends knew her as feisty, funny, sometimes bodacious, always charming, with a laugh none will ever forget.

She was the biological mother of two, but a mother figure to many. Though she did not possess material wealth, she would give you her last dollar if you needed it. She looked out for people and never hesitated to offer support in the hardest times. One recipient recalled her "caring eyes and disarming smile at my back door with a big bowl of chicken and dumplings."

Rachael is survived by her beloved children Chloe Sheridan and Caleb Sheridan, their father Tony Blevins and brother Blu Midyett; stepson Quinton Hamm and his father Michael Hamm; mother Kristine Sheridan and stepfather Dan Klinknett; father James Dick and stepmother Pam Grout; sisters Elisabeth Sheridan, Rebekah Sheridan, and Hannah Sheridan-Duque (Brother-in-law Juan Duque); stepsister Tasman Grout; nieces Khia Sheridan and Nona Sheridan-Duque; nephew Ezekial Sheridan; grandparents Jeanne Johnson and Howard Whittington. She also leaves behind an army of friends, many of whom she considered extended family, who will miss her very much.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to the Rachael Memorial Fund at www.gofundme.com/RachaelSheridanFund

The world has lost a special light. We love you, Rachael. Rest in peace.

My condolences to all who knew and loved Rachael. With shock and sadness at this loss I remember this special woman. I was graced to meet her once and have thought of her often since. We spent several hours talking and sharing while, we both attended Coffeehouse with people we worked with as support staff. I've never met someone like her, so open, engaging interesting & lovable. I felt like I had just made a real friend. She listened like she really cared and we made a fast and strong connection. We did exchange phone numbers but, never did call each other. I went to a yard sale at the complex where she lived but, was disappointed I did not run into her. I truly wish I had tried harder to reach out. Life and friendship is so precious. I am grateful for the gift she gave of herself and am inspired by her light. My thoughts & prayers are with her family and loved ones.

I have such positive memories of this lovely woman and fantastic mother. Although I had not seen her in awhile, Rachael is the kind of person who leaves such a lasting impression and has you wanting to know more.

For a time when our daughters were young, I was fortunate enough to be a part of her circle. Many years passed since we were actively engaged, but we were planning to reconnect. I truly regret that we did not do it sooner and that we did not have the opportunity to spend more time together over the years.

Rachael's passing has been a wake up call to me and in her honor, I plan to reach out to the friends with whom I have not stayed in better contact.

My thoughts are with Chloe and Caleb and her family now. I will see you on the 15th. Please let me know if I can help.

Love,
Rachel

My candle burns at both ends

It made such lovely light!

A few months ago I was trying to find you on facebook. You were heavy on my mind. We met when we were both pregnant with our first babies and our friendship continued for many years after that. Eventually our lives took us on different paths and we lost touch. As sad as this moment in time is, it's always that brightest star that fades the quickest.
you will be missed. My regards to your loved ones.

Dear Family, Thinking of you here in Iowa. We remember when you all came to Iowa for our daughter Nancy and Uncle Joe Johnson wedding 1997. Joe is 2 yrs. older than Rachael and they grew up as dear friends and playmates. Rachael was a proud Mom as Caleb was ring bearer and Chloe was flowergirl in the wedding. We had a fun time. GMA Jean loved and talked of her often to us. Deepest Sympathy!
