Peggy Scally Obituary

As a child, Peggy lived in a rural corner of the Midwest where soda fountains and general stores were the norm. Compelled by curiosity and a will to see more, she attended university at a time most women didn't, exchanging the wheat fields and small town of her her youth for some trees and bigger towns in the process. This path led her into the realm of public health, where she worked for four decades helping make people's lives in Kansas and Missouri better, more understandable, safer and less scary. If it wasn't her calling, she sure seemed to think it was. Along the way, she witnessed the Sixties with a mixture of sadness and pride, married a conscientious objector named Jim, built friendships with the strangest and most lovely people, raised two strong-willed children, harangued troublesome state and local lawmakers, traveled the world and endured punishing illnesses. She was a voracious reader and lover of Jazz and basketball. She was tough, brave and quiet – a quintessential Midwesterner until the end. Peggy wasn't fond of praise, but she earned plenty of it nonetheless. This remarkable woman will be terribly missed. But Peggy lives on in the hearts and minds of those she left behind: Patti, Leslie, Tom, Quinn, Hayes, Patrick, Sarah and Paula. They love her always.

Leslie and Patrick- so sorry to hear about your Mom. She was a wonderful friend and coworker to my mom and I know they shared birthdays a day apart. I know Mom missed her when she moved to be closer to Leslie. Peggy was a sweet soul and a very kind person. I let Mom know about her passing away. Hugs Kristi Johnson ( mom- Barbara Johnson Rutherford)

Peggy was only an acquaintance, but the Peggy I knew was a delightful woman. She left her mark, for the better, on this community.
