Paul William Schultz, 64, passed away after a short illness on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 in Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Paul was born in 1953 to Alice Mary McEleney and John A. Schultz in Clinton, Iowa. His family moved to Lawrence, Kansas in 1958, where he graduated from Lawrence High School in 1971, and Kansas University in 1975.

After graduating, Paul became a police officer and later detective with the KU Police Department, and joined the US Secret Service as a Federal Agent in 1984. This career began in Kansas City, then progressed to Washington, D.C., where he served in the White House during the Reagan and George H.W. Bush Administrations. He was then assigned to the Albany, NY office as Special Agent in Charge. Subsequently, he was assigned to the Oklahoma City office as Assistant Special Agent in Charge, and retired there in 2004. His assignments afforded him opportunity to visit numerous destinations including China, Indonesia, South American, South Korea, Russia, and many European and Asian countries.

He married B.J. Cooley in 1983 and she passed away in 2002. He married Sherry Day in 2006. Survivors include his wife, Sherry; sister, Kathy McGrath of Bettendorf, Iowa; brother, John Shultz (Marci) of Wichita, Kansas; nephews, Patrick McGrath, Lawrence, Ryan Schultz, Kansas City; and niece, Kristin Schultz, Kansas City.

Paul enjoyed numerous outdoor activities including off-roading with the Flint Hills Jeep Club in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, and South Dakota. He delivered meals for the Lawrence Senior Center. He spent his retirement perfecting his many talents of woodworking, building, furniture refinishing, vintage car restorations and enjoyed maintaining and designing his beautiful home landscape. Paul was a friend to many and will be missed by all. Rest in Peace, Paul.

Matthew 5:9, Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Paul and I were detectives together and Paul was a good cop. My condolences to all of Paul's family and friends. The law enforcement community has lost a good man, a kind man and a gentle man. May God bless and hold His servant Paul Schultz forever.

So very sad to see this. I worked with Paul at KUPD back in the day and learned a lot about how to be a good investigator from him. He was a good man who cared about those he worked with. He will be missed.
