Patrick Hoffman Obituary

Patrick John Hoffman

Patrick John Hoffman, age 37, of Columbus, Ohio, died 3/22/14. He was born in Manhattan, Kansas on 7/19/76. He graduated from Lawrence High School and went on for a Bachelor's Degree in English at Kansas University and a Masters in English and Philosophy at Ohio State University. He had completed his course work toward a PhD in Philosphy also at Ohio State. Patrick excelled in soccer and lettered at Lawrence High School. He went to Germany for a year and worked as an "Au Pair" which enabled him to play soccer with Germans and hone his soccer skills. While in Germany, he mastered the language and was able to substitute for German teachers at the high school level when he returned to the U.S.

Patrick was a competitor at heart and liked most every sport. He obsessively followed the Chicago White Sox, the Chicago Bears, KU Jayhawks basketball, and Ohio State football. He loved any challenge, physical or mental. If he

wasn't meeting a physical feat, he was expanding his mind. He had a great appreciation for anything new, smart, or forward thinking. He was passionate about good music, good food, and good conversation. Patrick loved the outdoors. In recent years, he became an avid gardener.

Patrick loved everyone he met. He was generous to a fault. He gave his time, talents and knowledge to anyone, big or small, who had a need. If you ever had a spirited 'discussion' with Patrick, that only meant he loved you more. He lived every moment of his life to the fullest. Fun, zealous, and out-spoken, he will always be irreplaceable to any who knew him.

Patrick is survived by his parents, John and Beth Hoffman, his siblings, Janna Hoffman, Colleen Hoffman, Peggy Hoffman Powers, Nora Hoffman Frandsen, Gabriel Hoffman, Christopher Hoffman, and Bridgit Hoffman and 9 adoring nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers or cards, please do a kind deed for a neighbor, or better yet, plant a garden and share the harvest with every one you know.

A celebration of Patrick's life will be on 9/7/14. Please refer to Patrick's facebook page for time and location or call (785) 841-8888.

Not sure what to say?

My condolences to his family especially John and Beth. I thank you for raising such an amazing individual and instilling in him such incredible passion for life. I was extremely lucky enough to have befriended this upright citizen. He was loyal to all and never quit loving everyone. From his work at the boys' home to assisting those in need in his neighborhood, it's safe to say that no one will ever be able to fill this man's shoes. He will be missed every day.
"Tractor" was the most unique specimens of a human being and I will always think of him as a brother more than a friend. Words cannot describe my misery when I realize that he no longer walks this earth but I find comfort in believing that he is looking down and telling those who love him to quit the crying fest.
Patrick, thank you for the memories and the good times. Rest in peace my friend.

Patractor, apparently you knew nothing about softball. But all those things you did know, were very special. I am proud to have shared some of my best times of my life with you either at All-American, Ohio/Church/Vermont homes, in Austin, and at your place in Columbus.

You are missed, and no one can replace the role you had in my life. Cheers Huffster.

We love you. We love you. We love you. I will always miss Patrick. I remember his intelligence, his wit, his generosity, his compassion, his passion, his laughter, his raucous righteous singing/shouting happy birthday, his love and dedication to his family, his love for his friends...and his light...his very bright light. I know that he is not lost to us, so Michael and I send our prayers, our hopes, and our knowledge that he is not far. We pray for angels to surround each of you with the light and hope and comfort, and promise of everlasting life. We love you.
