Patricia Sheley Obituary

Patricia Jean Sheley, 73, of Bonner Springs, KS passed away Monday, Feb. 27, 2012 at the Kansas City Hospice House after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be at 7:00 pm, Thur. evening, March 1st, 2012 at the Alden Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs, KS. With the Graveside Committal service to follow at 11:00 am, Fri., March 2nd at the Bonner Springs Cemetery. Pats friends may call at the Visitation from 4 to 7 pm, Thursday, March 1st, prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Bonner Springs High School Memorial Walkway fund in care of the Alden Harrington Funeral Home. Pat was born on Feb. 2, 1939 in Kansas City, KS and was a lifelong Bonner Springs area resident. She graduated from Bonner Springs High School in 1957 with many friends, some of which she had gone all the way through school with. She proudly graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in Journalism and English, and later returning to receive her Masters degree. Pat taught school for 39 years, 31 of which were at her alma mater Bonner Springs High School retiring in 2000. Over the years she had received so many awards and accolades one of which, that was so meaningful to her, was her Induction into the Bonner Springs High School Hall of Fame in 2008. Her biggest accomplishment by far was probably the huge number of friends and students that felt so nurtured by her over the years. One of her biggest joys in life was traveling abroad with many students over the years. In her later years Pat loved the companionship of her 2 cats, Calpurrnia and Scout. Pat was a member of the Bonner Springs United Methodist Church and the Bonner Springs Historical Preservation Society. Pat loved being right in the middle of most all of Bonner Springs big events, some of her favorites were watching the local parades from her very own review stand on her own front porch. Pat was a loving and devoted daughter and was preceded in death by her parents Gene and Patsy Sheley. And is survived by a host of loving and caring friends that will miss her greatly. She will always be remembered as an important part of Bonner Springs.
