Norman Kittel Obituary

Norman D. Kittel, 88, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 25, 2021, at Homestead of Eudora assisted living facility in Eudora, Kansas.

Norman was born on May 3, 1933, in Olmitz, Kansas, the son of Henry and Mary (Stegman) Kittel.

Upon graduation from Great Bend, Kansas high school, Norman joined the U.S. Army as part of the 1st Infantry Division, serving his country in Korea and Japan.

After his military service he was employed as a cabinetmaker and later as a custodian at USD 350 in St. John, Kansas, where he lived for most of his life.

Norman is survived by his wife of 65 years, Emelia (Muci) Kittel. They were married in Great Bend, Kansas on March 2, 1956. Other survivors include a son, Rick (Peggy) Kittel of Lawrence, Kansas, and a grandson, James Kittel of Brooklyn, New York, who was Norman's pride and joy.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents and his three sisters, Lena Wharton, Dolores Schrepel Anton, and Geneva Smith.

In recent years Norman lovingly served as the primary caregiver for Emelia as her health declined. In recognition of his devotion to her, memorial contributions may be made in Norman's name to the Alzheimer's Association and be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, Kansas, 66044.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

I will always remember Norman's smiley eyes at our chaotic family gatherings. His love for Mimi was touching. May he rest in peace now.
