Nora Dodson Obituary

Nora Jane (Gillespie) Dodson The world has lost a remarkable woman - Nora Jane (Gillespie) Dodson passed away Friday June 24, 2011 at the age of 65. She was the beloved wife of David Dodson, treasured mother of Lesley Dodson and dear sister-in-law of Lola Hoffer. Nora was a beautiful, intelligent and accomplished woman whose life was shaped by her signature style and grace. She graduated with a BA in Fine Art and a Masters in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Arizona, served as a Docent for the Tucson Museum of Art and had a successful career as a real estate broker. Her love of animals led her to years spent raising and showing her much-loved Afghan hounds, she was also a strong supporter of Greyhound Rescue and the Humane Society of Southern Arizona (where she served as Director of Community Affairs). Nora's ability to discover art in everyday life, to light up the room with her smile and to bring humor to the dullest moment will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her family will miss her more than words could ever express. Arrangements by HUDGEL'S SWAN FUNERAL HOME.

I met Nora in 1987, through a mutual friend, Margie Barrasso, when I arrived back in Tucson and desired to buy a house. Nora, immediately, devoted all of her attention to my needs in locating "just the right home" for my two young daughters and me, and I still own that house to this day. She became a friend from that time on, and I shall never forget her kindness and devotion in welcoming me back to Tucson. She was an angel on earth.

Lesley, I am so sorry for your loss. I understand the heartache of losing a parent, especially one who, like your mom, was larger than life.

Nora remains in the hearts and memories of all she came in contact with. I see her beauty and love of life in Lesley, her warmth and quick smile in David, and her patience and empathy in Lola. Thank you for bringing her presence back amongst friends to share a time to send Nora's energy to another dimension. A donation will be made to the Human Society of Arizona.

This message is for Lesley. I am sorry for the loss of your mother. I remember her love of her Afghans, and how sweet she was to all of your friends. She took us to see "Saturday Night Fever" in 6th grade and I thought she was so VERY cool! I know I haven't seen you since 6th grade, but wanted to let you know how sorry I am for your loss.

My most sincere sympathy to Nora's family. Somewhere in Heaven, there is a sweet little gal with a big smile, looking for the Afghan Hound ring...

Peace and prayers to all of you.

Nora was a dear friend from cooking classes-her smile and laugh were priceless. She always had a story to tell and loved life and her family most of all. I'll never forget Nora-she brought joy to all who met her. My deepest sympathy to the Dodson family.
