Netty Keizer Obituary

Netty Keizer

Netty Keizer died Thursday evening, April 17, 2014 with family by her side at Brandon Woods in Lawrence, KS.

Netty was born November 13, 1927 in Palembang, Indonesia on the island of Sumatra, to Naomi and Paian Pasaribu, the third of 10 children.

She married her husband and best friend, Gerard Keizer, March 17, 1947. In 1957, Netty, Gerard and their two young sons emigrated to the United States from The Netherlands, settling in the Lone Star area of Douglas County, sponsored by The Lone Star Church of the Brethren where they were members. Throughout her life, Netty served by caring for others, particularly young people. She worked for many years on the cafeteria staff of Hashinger Hall on the University of Kansas campus and most recently with the Princeton Children's Center of Lawrence, KS. She volunteered in a variety of ways, with the emphasis on helping others. Netty was an incredible cook and never knew a stranger seated at her table. She loved the outdoors and with the first hint of spring, would be found preparing her garden, which along with her menagerie of animals and pets, would keep her busy beyond the first frost of autumn.

Netty was preceded in death by her parents and six siblings, daughter-in-law, Patty and her husband of 61 years, Gerard. Netty loved and was very proud of her children and their spouses: Erik, Denver, CO; Ferry Keizer and Caroline Grootes, Lawrence, KS; Clair Keizer and Terry Levine, Kansas City, MO; Ingrid Keizer Wilson and Andrew Wilson, Blue Springs, MO; her 12 grandchildren: Jason Schroeder, Bryce Schroeder, Corey Keizer, Margot (Michael) Keizer Zigmont, Adam (Jennifer) Keizer-Marcinkowski, Sonia Keizer, Emily Keizer, Sydney Keizer, Nina Keizer, Patrick Keizer, Olivia Wilson and Elias Wilson; and two great-grandchildren, Penelope and George Zigmont. Living siblings include: Martha Nelly Pasaribu, Frankfurt, Germany; Pauline (Boetet) Pasaribu Simuputang Djakarta, Java, Indonesia; Lodewyk Pasaribu, Padang, Sumatra, Indonesia; and Henky Pasaribu, Palembang, Sumatra, Indonesia.

The family suggests memorials to the Douglas County Senior Center or Grace Hospice, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

A memorial celebrating Netty's incredible life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 30, at the Lone Star Church of the Brethren. The family will greet guests immediately after.

Tante Netty was a very warm person and a great cook. I sat and ate on her table a couple of times when I was a studen at KU, together with Toga and Andy Simatupang. I will remember her always.

I will miss our long phone calls and Netty telling me "I'm so glad you called because you make me laugh so much. I love you". We had a nice lunch before Christmas together and was looking forward to more when weather got better. Rest in Peace Netty my friend. I will always think of you and how much your friendship meant to me. Blessings to all her family.

My deepest condolences to Keizer family. May loving memories of her bring you comfort and strength. Tante Netty was a sweet and kind lady, who welcomed us to her home anytime with Om Keizer. For many Indonesian students who studied in Kansas, she was a loving mother figure, who spoiled us with her home meal cooking. I will always remember and cherish those lovely times at her home. Rest in peace Tante Netty... you will be missed dearly.
