Nancy Cay (Trefz) Mannucci had a knack for taking something rough around the edges and turning it into something smooth and new by sanding away the dirt and grime to reveal the gem underneath. This gift extended beyond discarded dressers and sidetables to all of the rough things life threw at her, including the cancer that ended her life in August 2023.

She was born in Eudora, Kansas on August 4, 1960 to Wilfred (deceased) and Nell Trefz and enjoyed a small-town childhood with sisters Darla, Annette, and Tracy. She was a curious and adventurous kid who grew into a wilder (though mostly law-abiding) young woman. She married Scot Hamlin (deceased) in 1981 and went on to have three pretty great kids: Zac, Hannah, and Jason. It was always amazing to her that two "wrongs" could make three "rights" (her words, not ours, we promise).

She married Robert Stockdale in December of 1992. While the marriage didn't last, the love for her two bonus children, Liz and John, remained strong. She married David Mannucci in December of 2002, who became a most dear and constant friend.

She spent all of her life caring for others as an LPN and particularly enjoyed travel nursing as it gave her the chance to live in different places for a few months at a time, before returning home to work on furniture restoration and other art projects at her home in Eudora.

Nancy knew no strangers. In this single life, she was many different people: daughter, sister, cousin, wife, mother, step-mother, friend, mentor, and one hell of a good time. She left this life completely at peace. She didn't always get her way, but she always found her way.

Nancy is survived by mother Nell Trefz, sisters Darla Pittman, Annette Trefz, and Tracy Trefz, children Zachary and Sarah Hamlin, Hannah and Kyle Anderson, and Jason "Wolf" and Lindsey Hamlin, grandchildren Maeslyn and Orion (Zac and Sarah) and Heidi (Hannah and Kyle), and dear friend David Mannucci.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to deathwithdignity.org, and/or contact your local legislator and ask them to reconsider HB 2202. Finally, raise a glass and toast her life well-lived!
