Nancy Foerschler Obituary

Nancy Ann (Carey) Foerschler passed away on October 10, 2024, at the age of 93.

She was born February 11, 1931, the first child of Marguerite (Koch) Carey and Matt Carey in Kansas City, KS. Growing up, she attended Blessed Sacrament School and Bishop Ward High School, where she marched in the marching band playing trombone. Nancy loved working in her father's pharmacy, Carey Prescription Shop. Nancy attended the University of Kansas where she was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. She was inspired by her parents to pursue a career in the health professions, and graduated with a degree in Physical Therapy. She worked for Dixon & Dively orthopedics at St. Luke's Hospital where she provided pioneering care for patients with polio and cerebral palsy. She especially love working with children.

She met Robert (Bob) Foerschler, also of Kansas City, KS, on a blind date. They did not immediately hit it off. They met again on another blind date, and after several years of dating they were married at Blessed Sacrament Catholic church on October 27, 1956. They were happily married for 60 years. When they welcomed their first born, Charles Matthew (Matt), Nancy was happy to become a full time homemaker. Eight years later, the family welcomed their second child, Ann. Nancy said that being a mother was all she had ever wanted from life, and she lavished her children with love and attention.

Once Nancy and Bob became empty nesters, Nancy took a job with the Wyandotte County Election Commissioner's office where she enjoyed working for 15 years. As Matt began his family with his wife, Becky, Nancy and Bob loved nothing more than spending time with their grandchildren, Andy, Emily and Hannah, taking them places like the Kansas City Zoo and attending all of their events. Nancy and Bob also enjoyed exploring the Kansas City area and its many restaurants together, and they often travelled to visit Ann and her family, where Nancy doted on her two youngest grandchildren, Jack and Kate. Ann eventually convinced them to travel to Europe, Hawaii and Alaska with her where they made many wonderful memories with Ann, her husband, John, and Jack and Kate.

Nancy had a long full life and lived independently until shortly before her death. She was funny, resilient, a devoted Catholic and always guided by the deep love she had for her family.

Nancy is predeceased by her husband, Robert Hugh, her sister, Rita and a stillborn child, Mary. She leaves behind her children, Matt Foerschler and Ann Summers, their spouses, Becky Foerschler and John Summers, and her grandchildren, Andy Foerschler, Emily Rose, Hannah Foerschler, Jack Summers and Kate Summers. Those who knew and loved her will forever miss her humor and warmth.

Visitation will be at 9:00 a.m. with the Funeral Mass following at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 28, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 3024 N. 53rd St. Kansas City, KS. Entombment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, KS.
