Nancy Dorsey Obituary

Nancy Anne Dorsey

Nancy Anne Campbell Dorsey was born November 5, 1948 in Evanston, Illinois and passed away at her home in Lawrence, Kansas on August 4, 2015 after a 60 day battle against triple negative breast cancer.

Nancy grew up in New London and Greenwich Connecticut, and was a graduate of the University of Kansas in 1972.

Nancy enjoyed playing duplicate bridge and travelling. She was brave enough to move to Saudi Arabia in 1984 for five years with 5 month old twins, a 4 year old and a son in sixth grade. She was able to visit 26 countries in Europe, Asia, and Africa and even the Seychelles Islands in the middle of the Indian Ocean.

Nancy taught special education in the Hillsborough School District, Hillsborough, New Jersey from 1992 until her retirement in 2005.

She was a member and secretary for the local chapter of NAMI and was a member of the Kaw Valley Bridge Club.

Nancy was known for her sense of humor and her devotion to her family. She believed in being kind to people regardless of their race, religion or country of origin and she had friends all over the world.

She also had countless friends in the Princeton, New Jersey area and in Lawrence, KS. She will be missed by her friends and family and will be remembered for a life well lived by a woman well loved.

She was preceded in death by her mother Jean Scheibel Campbell and her father Laurie Hudson Campbell. She is survived by her husband of 45 years Gene A. Dorsey and her four sons and families: David A. Dorsey of Ft Myers, FL and his wife Bonnie and daughter Emily and son Samuel; Mark G. Dorsey of Cranberry TWSP, PA, his wife Gina and son Jackson; Todd A. Dorsey and Kyle A. Dorsey of Denver, CO. She is also survived by her three sisters, Carol Carter (Steve) of Fairway, Kan.; Susan Bailey (Pete) of Annapolis, MD; and Barbara Liberman (Scott) of St. Louis, MO.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to the University of Kansas Cancer Center or http://www.bethechangevolunteers.org (go to web site and click on donations). She has donated her body to the University of Kansas Medical Center for research and training purposes. Private family services are pending.

My cousin Nancy brought a great deal of happiness to our family many years ago when we were all quite a bit younger. We enjoyed many holidays together. Losing her at such a young age must be very painful. I wish peace and healing for Gene and the entire family.

I met Nancy when we served on the NAMI board. She was a very special woman-- very caring for others and someone who dearly loved her family. I will greatly miss her. She will always be an inspiration to me.

I am so glad that John and I got to meet your mom for Sammy's birthday. I loved how she looked at the family with proud eyes. I also loved how soft spoken and proper she was. May God bless her soul and give you the comfort you need at this time. May all the wonderful moments you shared continue to live through your family.

David and Dorsey Family. I never met your mom David. But I know you. You are a good man and that just doesn't happen. You took care of my cousin and took her daughter as your own. That just doesn't happen either. I'm so sorry for your family's loss and for your pain. I look up to you David and wish I was half the man you are. And that just doesn't happen. Your mom taught you well my friend. My heart hurts for you. If I can do anything , please let me know. Cancer hurts us all. But your mom is right. I bet there is no cancer in heaven.

If I'm ever honest, this comes from my mom. And if I'm ever kind to someone less fortunate than myself (which isn't often enough), then that comes from my mom, too. So do lots of other small but important things, like emptying the dishwasher or doing some laundry (although not like her. She used to do 5-6 loads a day). I have lots of thoughts floating around in my head about mom. I will have to sit down at some point and write more of them. I wish we had her here longer, but as I told her during one of our last, in-person conversations, there's no cancer in Heaven. I love my mom and will miss her the rest of my days. I also know I can keep her memory alive by following her lead and doing what she wanted me to do by carrying on.

Missing you every day. Playing your voice mails over and over just to hear your voice. I will strive to be the dedicated wife and mom that you were. Thank you for blessing my kids by being their grandma. Save a place for me, mom. I love you
