Merle Hodges Obituary

Merle Alvadore Hodges, M.D. passed away on April 24, 2017. Dr. Hodges was born on March 26, 1934 to Alva T. "Buck" and Kizzie Brubaker Hodges in Lawrence. A graduate of Lawrence High School, the University of Kansas (where he played football), and the University of Kansas Medical School, Dr. Hodges was a captain in the United States Air Force and was an obstetrician and gynecologist in Salina for forty years, as well as serving as a Salina City Commissioner and mayor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Warren and sister-in-law Kathleen; sister Leta Mae Hodges Percival; and daughter Dr. Melissa Ann Hodges. He is survived by his wife Nancy Jo Hutton Hodges; son Dr. Merle J. "Boo" (Melissa Rose), Salina; granddaughter Elizabeth (Nicole); grandsons Matthew (Bethany), Ted and Grant (Jillian); and great-grandsons Gage and Kai; his brother Ervin (Shirley); brother-in-law Ivan Percival; and sister-in-law Jane Hutton Stievater (Bob).

Memorials may be made to the Kansas Historical Society "Save the Flags" fund; the Salina Animal Shelter; or the K-Club in care of the Williams Education Fund at the KU. Baker Funeral Home, Valley Center (bakerfhvc.com).

Merle you will be greatly missed...will never forget what you was singing going down the hall of asbury hospital...we are going to have a baby...that was 40 yrs ago. you will be greatly missed and loved
