My condolences to the Tyner family. Because of Aisha, his wife, and McCoy, I am left with some great music and some great memories. We sat together almost 50 years ago and remained friends all those years. Saud impacted the entire world and did so with his great wife. And we had some fun together as well. To say that I will miss him is a gross understatement. The world has experienced a great loss.

A true gentleman and a first rank musical innovator. Once in NYC, I stopped in at Sweet Basil to hear him with Avery Sharpe; he sat with me between sets and shared several comments about the music- even asked for my opinion. McCoy is always upheld as a virtuoso on ballads and harmonic improvisation. We lost a great man with his passing.

My prayers and condolences are with the McCoy family at this trying time. May God bring you much needed comfort. Ps 35:18,19

In the late 1970s I went to visit my best friend from University of Iowa days Dr. Les Johnson in the San Francisco area. Les was a Ph.D. in Pharmacy and a law degree in patent law. When I arrived, he said he was taking me on a special treat in San Francisco at the Fairmont, not telling me what until we got into the hotel. McCoy Tyner and Freddy Hubbard were performing. It was a wonderful performance. My favorite piece was "Here, There, and Everywhere." Alas, I don't think it was ever recorded. Sad to hear Mr. Tyner has passed away. Requiescat in pace and love to his family.

Sad news indeed ... McCoy Tyner was a true giant of the jazz world for 5 decades.
I was blessed to see & hear him first with Coltrane at Shelley's Manne Hole in Hollywood in circa 1964 ... and several other gigs with Coltrane later on.
Then I saw him at the Jazz Bakery in Culver City with his own trio ... and in the 2000's & 2010's at Jazz Alley in Seattle.
He was truly a talented cat who has made a huge & lasting impact on the jazz scene.
May he Rest in Peace.
