Matthew Viets Obituary

Matthew "Matt" J. Viets of Lawrence, KS departed this life on September 8, 2022.

Matt was born in Lawrence, KS on September 17, 1976, to Deborah and Jon Viets. He was raised in Coffeyville, KS where he was active in sports and enjoyed the companionship of his four brothers and many, many good friends and where he met, fell in love with and in time married his high school sweetheart, Angela E. Cornell.

After graduating from high school in Coffeyville. Matt attended Coffeyville Community College, Baker University and then graduated from Pittsburg State University with a degree in Construction Management.

Matt and Angie returned to Lawrence following their marriage and Matt was employed by Gene Fritzel Construction Co. as a Project Manager. He greatly enjoyed his association with the Fritzel family.

Three children, Beckett, Sophia and Samuel were born to Matt and Angie's union and the children have lived active and fun filled lives growing up in Lawrence and they are deeply loved by their parents.

Matt was preceded in death by his mother, Deborah. He is survived by his wife, Angie, children, Beckett, Sophia and Samuel, his father, Jon; four brothers, Ben of Coffeyville, KS, Josh of Edmond, OK, Jake of Independence, KS and Zack of Des Moines, IA, as well as his father-in-law Steve Cornell and mother-in-law Susan Buzard, both of Coffeyville, KS, he also leaves behind a great number of loving, uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Matt was a loving and soulful man, with a quick wit and great sense of humor. His passing places an immense void and he is greatly missed.

Memorial Mass will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church 6001 Bob Billings Pkwy, Lawrence, KS at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2022.
