Mary Warren Obituary

Mary Lou Warren

A celebration of life for Mary Lou Warren, 70, Lawrence, will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Mary Lou died April 1, 2014, at her home in Lawrence. She was born on February 7, 1944 to Glenn and Emma Louise (Shaffer) Booth.

She has been a resident of Lawrence since 1979. She worked as a librarian at KU in government documents for many years. Mary Lou was also a veteran of the Army Reserve and Air Force Reserve.

In her spare time she enjoyed reading books, doing needlework, and spending countless hours working in her yard. She also spent her time volunteering at the library, Meals on Wheels, the Humane Society, and driving cancer patients to their doctor appointments.

Her family was her true passion, especially her grandchildren. She was a very proud and active grandmother. She was their biggest fan and would cheer at their sporting events, attend school functions, enjoyed having them at her house to play games and make their favorite meals. She loved her family and friends with her whole heart & soul and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include: son; Scott Warren, Topeka, daughter; Stacey (Scott) Broers, Ozawkie, sisters; Carol Vandernoot, Tulsa, OK, and Diane Booth, Denver, CO; and two grandchildren; Alex and Conner Broers.

The family suggests memorials to the Lawrence Humane Society which may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

Blessings to the family at this time. We had great fun during our growing up years. We often met at our Grandma and Grandpa's house on weekends. Sad to hear that she has passed. Glad I was informed and I pray for the upcoming service and for her family during this time.

She was so much fun to work with! Never a harsh word for anyone. Always a helping hand.

I am soooo glad I knew her...and soooo sad she's gone.

Mary Lou was a fine neighbor. Worrisome at times. As I would walk by her house often, I never knew if I would find her high on a ladder painting her house or simply enjoying her flowers. A very interesting lady. We often shared comments about our families. It was clear that she loved her family very very much. Ivy Brock
