Mary Campbell Obituary

Mary "Frances" (Drinnon) Campbell, of Lawrence, passed away on June 12, 2022, surrounded by family.

Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 16, 2022, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral home, 601 Indiana St. Lawrence, KS. Graveside services will be held immediately following visitation at Reno Cemetery, Leavenworth County, KS. Please dress casually. Arrangements are by Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.

Frances was born at home on a farm near Leota, MO, about 6 miles from West Plains, MO to Joseph and Ethella (King) Drinnon on August 26,1941. She went to school in Thayer and West Plains, MO then Lawrence, KS. She married LeRoy Campbell on December 12, 1955, in Hernando, MS. Frances was a young bride and being a wife and mother took precedence, she waited to finish her education and career for many years. She graduated from night school and later went on to Johnson County Community College received her associates degree. She worked as a quality supervisor for King Radio, Bendix-King, Allied Signal for more than 30 years. She enjoyed spending time with family, watching them grow was some of her best and happiest times. She kept a yard full of flowers and many cactuses on her patio. She would spend hours making crochet and embroidery gifts for family and friends.

Frances is preceded in death by her parents, her husband LeRoy was killed on the job on January 22, 1986. She never remarried waiting to be with him again. Her daughter, Judy Kathryn Schmitz preceded her on July 11, 2021. Also, two beloved dogs, Hannah and Barbie, whose ashes will be with her.

Frances is survived by her son, Steven Roy Campbell (Patty) Eudora, daughter, Mary Pamela Jane Alt, (Dean) and son-in-law, Jim Schmitz both of Lawrence. Her 8 Grandchildren: Jamie Dunn (Damien) Lenexa, Ks; Andy Campbell, Eudora, KS; Brett Campbell (Amy) Olathe, KS; Georgia Friedhoff (Rian) Kansas City, MO; Josh Campbell (Erin) Overland Park, KS; Jason Schmitz, Lawrence, KS; Renee Edmonds (Ryan) Lecompton, KS; and Johnny Christian (Alisha) Lawrence, KS; Her 9 Great-Grandchildren, Rhys and Rosalyn Campbell; Isaac, Aidan and Lily Schmitz; Gwyneth Edmonds; Savannah, Caroline and Retter Christian. Her two brothers Coy "Dee" Drinnon, Tonganoxie, Ks and Joe Drinnon (Betty) of West Plains, Mo. Nieces and Nephews Kathy Armstrong, Pat Ramos, Mike Drinnon and Joe Bill Drinnon. Close friends who went out for dinner once a week for more than 30 years Sharon Bunce, Dorothy Delg and Wanda VanDyke. Her rescue dog, Baby, who was well loved.

Pallbearers will be Jason Schmitz, Brett Campbell, Josh Campbell, Andy Campbell, Johnny Christian, Joe Bill Drinnon, Mike Drinnon. Alternates would be Isaac and Aidan Schmitz.
